its really different because of the amount of freedom that you have. high school is actually fun. there's really nothing to be worried about. the older kids dont really bother you but it gives you a chance to become friends with older people if you want. hmm some things to know...organize your books in your locker so that when the bell rings you can change your books quickly, in my school you cant carry bookbags and you have 3 minutes to change classes. and you should study at least a little bit. i started high school in 8th grade so i was 12 and in the same school as 18 year olds. i was fine and you will be too.

High school is different from middle school—but not extremely so. You have more freedom, more responsibilities, more difficult classes. Maybe your middle school teachers told you what to expect in high school, but a lot of that isn’t true. The teachers are still quite lenient, and you will find some that you respect very much and others you will learn to hate.
I personally thought high school is much better than middle school (I’m starting my sophomore year this year and looking forward to it). You’ll find many different groups of people, the preps, the nerds, the jocks—all of that. These groups aren’t clear cut though. Each group mingles with the rest. High school is stereotyped, and often wrongly. There aren’t many people who won’t associate with anyone outside their “group.” You’ll have friends from every group, most likely.
Also, the upperclassmen-picking-on-freshmen is way overrated. I don’t think I was ever picked on because I was a freshmen. And if you are picked on, it won’t be in a mean way; it’ll be more of a joking-around way.
Starting high school, you will find that many of your middle school friends don’t want to be friends with you anymore, or you may feel that way about your old friends.
The first day of school, I suggest that you find a close friend from middle school or someone you already know, to hang out with. The first day is very, very exciting. There are so many different people. You won’t really know everyone in your class until at least a week.
Most likely a large number of the kids from your middle school will find each other, and sit together for the first day. It won’t be until later that everyone begins splitting up into other groups that include new people.
Don’t worry about getting lost. Just ask around.
If there’s one suggestion that comes to mind for you, it’s to join a sport. You’ll make, without a doubt, many friends. It doesn’t matter what sport you do or even if you’re good at it. Just join. I did cross country and track and I loved the people who ran with me.
Also, on the first day of school, wear something that will make a good impression. First impressions really do count. So, don’t wear anything very low cut or revealing, but dress nice. A skirt and a cute top, or jeans and a cute top, will do.
Try to be as friendly as possible to everyone.
Hope this helps. J

Alright, highschool isn't as fruitful as the rest of these people are saying. Depending on the group of people you hang around with now, you ARE going to lose friends, and you will have to get new ones. High school is full of opportunities, and you're going to kick yourself in the ass for every one you miss. I reccomend if you're really outgoing to just run around the school with a good friend and automatically meet as many people as you can, introducing yourself and your friends to as many peopel as possible. You'll thank yourself for it later, and so will the people you meet. You have to do this quickly in the beginning of the year though, because depending on the difficulty of the courses you take, people can get really stressed out and rely on only their close friends for support, at which point they aren't going to want to be your friend. I reccomend if your school has a beginning of the ear barbecue to take full advantage of it, before the stress of homework and classes sets in. If you're more of a shy person, just immerse yourself in clubs and teams you enjyo and find people to talk to that share interests. It's easy if you know where to look. Contrary to popular belief, everyone in your school is going to be a stereotype, and that makes it easier to know who to talk to and who to avoid. There aren't going to be people who's sole role in your life is to bully you, jsut some people will be nicer than others. If someone is an asshole, you can very easily beat the crap out of them, blame it on peer pressure and teenage hormones, and get away with it as just a notch on your belt. The friends you make in high school are going to be the best friends you'll ever make. The experiences you have in high school are going to be the best experiences you'll ever have. And the memories you make in high school will be the ones that stick with you your whole life. Just go with the flow, keep your head up, and go with it.

Okay first off, high school is WAY better than middle school. You have more freedom and make a lot more friends. Something you should know is that bullying in high school, is just a stereotype. Mostly the upperclassmen try to help you find your way around and give you advice. Ninth grade is basically just a repeat of eight, meaning that it's similar and you learn somewhat of the same things. Don't be nervous. I only got lost once but that was because my high school has two different buildings to it and I went to the wrong one. Usually the high schools have maps, so you should be fine, but if you do get lost don't be afraid to ask someone for directions. Hope I helped :)

Highschool is really different than middle school because you have different rules and more freedom. Starting highschool can be very scarey but it`s so much fun. Stick with your friends and be yourself. Don`t try to stick in with a crowd either. Just because your a freshman doesn`t mean you can`t hang out with upperclassman either because if your yourself then they will like you. Also upperclassmen hate when you call yourself a "freshie" and think your cooler lol. The first and last years of highschool will be your favorite and an important part of highschool. You will loose friends and gain friends. Go through more drama than middle school. Just take it slow and stick with your friends. I hope you like it. :] ♥

Highschool is very different,
but its great.
Trust me, its more laid back then middle school,
the teachers arent constantly telling you whats right and wrong, and you get the option of being friends with a variety of new people, I love it.
Especially if you like making new friends, its a great oppertunity. Get involved in as many afterschool activitys as you can and make the best of that year, because after freshman year, it goes by SO FAST!
Just everyone says dont piss the upperclassman off aka Juniors and Seniors, mainly seniors, but your new, and they were once in your position, so if you get lost, dont feel bad to ask someone, after the first day or two you'll get the hang of where everything is in no time.
:]

just enjoy your freshman year
and dont worry about it!
