making money

Question Posted Wednesday July 26 2006, 2:47 pm

I'm 13/f and I live in Texas. My mom is starting to make me use my own money to buy clothes and cosmetics. The problem is, I have no way to make enough money. My mom says I could do work around the house, but she pays me SO little! Say, $1 to do the dishes and 50 cents to water the plants outside. I used to get an allowence but ever since my parents divorce, money is tight (my dad actually makes a lot of money but he's kind of selfish and will no longer give my mom the money to give me an allowence) so I don't get it anymore. I have tried babysitting by passing oout flyers, but no one even called me; my mom says I'm too young. What should I do??? I REALLY need to find a way to earn some money...the only way I get it now is when my grandparents give me an extra $5 bill sometimes when I visit(AFTER my mom tries to persuade them not to!)HELP!!!

Well, you can start by trying to get a couple of your friends together and create idk like a fundraising club for you guys just like do carwashes make lemonade or if you go to church ask if you can have a lemonade stand outside when everyone leaves and just tell them that it's for a good cause. Church people like giving money for good causes ^_^

you can always get your friends to help you out with a car wash, bake sale, yard sale, you name it! a yard sale will give you a chance to clean out your closet anyway to make room for new stuff. you have to be 15 to get an actual job, however. this is going to sound really stupid, but... do you have a goodwill in your town? or even second-hand clothes stores? you might want to just go look in those because there are many bargains and sometimes there isn't even anything wrong with the clothes! i've seen clothes from gap and american eagle at my local goodwill. and usually, shirts are only 50 cents there. you have to really look to find the normal clothes but once you do find them, it's really cheap and worth it. you could also ask your neighbors if they have any odd jobs they'd like you to do... perhaps pet-sitting or dog walking or something, mowing the lawn, stuff like that. i don't know how old you have to be to have a paper route, but you could also try one of those. good luck!

You aren't too young to babysit. You just don't know how to get the word out. People dont want to leave their children with some random person they find on a flyer they want to leave their children with someone they know. If you know some people with younger children, ask the mom&dad if they would like a night to themselves and offer to babysit. Also ask around your neighborhood if anyone needs any odd jobs done. Ask some old couples if they want their house cleaned or fence painted or somthing. About the makeup, th3skyisfalling needs to chill out for one thing. You don't NEED makeup but maybe you want to look nice :) go to the local pharmacy/drug store and i bet you could find eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, and lipgloss for under 15 dollars. But don't decide "I NEED NEW LIPGLOSS EVERY WEEK!" The makeup you buy should last you quite awhile, it won't be the end of the world to use it for a month, maybe two, until you flat run out of it. Now for the clothes, I'm pretty sure anyone can look nice without spending a fortune. Hollister, Abercrombie, & American Eagle = EXPENSIVE! Try to avoid shopping there regularly or you only come out with like, one t-shirt and a bracelet :]. Try thrift stores, try and create interesting, pretty outfits. Thrifting is actually very fun. Spend the money wisely. Goodluckk.

Yeah I pretty much have the same problem as me. I need money but have nowhere to get it. If i were you I would get some friends together and have a big yard sale or car wash. Also, I saw this thing on the news where these girls were having a lemonade sale for some cause(idk what it was I didn't see it from the beginning) and they made over $300. Good luck!

Look at it this way. Minimum wage in most states is $5.15 an hour. That's before taxes and social security are withheld. After those things are taken out, minimum wage is closer to $4.37 an hour, assuming about a 15% cut.

Now if dishes take you 10 minutes to do, and you get a dollar for doing them, that's equal to $6.00 an hour, before taxes. If you take taxes into account, it's more equal to the take-home pay of someone who makes almost $7.00 an hour. That's quite a bit more than minimum wage.

Your problem isn't that you aren't getting paid enough, it's that you aren't doing enough work to get paid for. If you can keep getting paid a dollar for 10 minutes of work, you're doing great. Find more stuff to do around the house.

Remember, other people are out there every day working 8 hours a day for less take-home pay per work-hour, and they are doing it just to be able to have food to eat and a roof over their head. At $4.37 take-home pay, they are only getting about 72 cents for every 10 minutes that they do dishes or whatever they have to do. That's 28% less than you get.

Just someting to think about.

Well i think you should ask your mom if any of her friends need a night off or just need some help. Then ask your mom if maybe you could have a carwash or well really anything like make a neckalace or something and selll it to someone.

Personally, I would start using her makeup. that's right, she'll get sick of it and eventually get you your own. do you have money saved up tho? maybe that's why she's making you pay for it. as for clothes, next time you spend time with your dad, tell him your situation. a lot of girls i know with divorced parents go to the other. if you nothing else works, wear clothes that you already have that still fit. do the dishes 2 times a day everyday for the next month and make $60. that can get you 2 outfits if you shop around real good. after school starts, prices will drop. you don't need tons of money to dress well. i know it seems like it but i know girls who buy $15 outfits and look great. you dont need to get all your clothes in one trip either. its just about mangaing your money. as for makeup.. you don't need much. you are 13. get $3 eyeshadow compact with a few colors and maybe a 3-7$ lipgloss, $5 mascara and a $1 eyeliner pencil and you're done. so learn to save up, shop sales and use what you have. it's a hard lesson learned but you'll need the experience later on in life. <3

lol. you're only 13. you're not under a crisis of no cosmetics.jesus you're thirteen. you have to be atleast 15 1/2 to get a job, so give it some years.

ask neighbors if there are anything you can do, because you're trying to save some money.

if you didnt know, after divorces you have to give money to the other spouse who has a child. that is for shelter/food/water. dont tell me that isnt enough

people would kill to have that.

dont do the whole get money from grandparents either

whats more important, their medication? or you're cosmetics

exactly.

take things into a 3rd person perspective
