Rabbit diseases

Question Posted Sunday July 9 2006, 12:39 pm

There is this bunny sickness that has hit more than one of our bunnies. The bunnies become very limp and act like they have no muscle ability left, they just tilt to the ground. They have green liquids seeping from their nose and mouth but their ears are clear of all mites and visible infections. What is killing my bunnies?

They need to see a vet as soon as possible.
The symptoms sound as though it could be something like Myxomotosis or VHD (Viral Haemorrhagic Disease), which are highly contagious and life threatening diseases. They are both very painful for the rabbit and, left untreated, cause intense suffering before they die. If it is one of these, you will not be able to treat it yourself and there is a high mortality rate. The sooner treatment begins the more chance there is of saving the rabbit.
Even if it is not one of these, the symptoms are still serious and they need to see a vet. Rabbits, generally, are not that strong and it does not take much for them to get to a point where they cannot recover.
Your vet will be able to carry out a proper diagnosis and advice on treatment and prevention.
I hope this is of help and that your rabbits make a full recovery.

You should take the rabbit to the vet, that way you will be sure of what is killing them, and you can get the rabbits treated right away. That is probably youre best bet!

Good luck!

Take them to the vet to figure it out, if its killing bunnies it probably can kill other animals, go to the vet and have them figure it out so you wont spread it.
