I'm going to be going to Hawaii in a week and it's a 5-8 hour flight. I'm TERRIFIED of planes...I have this phobia that they will crash in the middle of the ocean and I'll die. I would really like some advice about things I can do on the plane to take my mind off how scared I'm going to be and some techniques I can use to help me not be so scared. I own a laptop and I'm 13.

But you can read your favorite book talk to some friends on your laptop. Just remember to talk to your parents about you being scaried. Sometimes the best advice can come from your parents. But not all the time. If the plane is showing a movie watch the movie and relax. It is okay to be scaried of something but after you do it, it might be fun. On your way home just think about all the fun you had in Hawaii. Advice from Lilcupid and ask a question any time. Peace out!! [ Lilcupid's advice column | Ask Lilcupid A Question ]

A statistic says that you are more likely to die from a donkey attack than die in a plane crash. Also, I've heard that air travel is safer than land travel since there's nothing you can crash into. My dad also told me that each year, only about 3 planes crash. Every day, approximately 10,000 planes take off. What does that tell you? And to keep your mind off of it, bring music to listen to, your laptop, or anything else you think will keep you busy. Sleeping also helps quite a bit, since you won't know what's happening. I really hope I helped! I tried, haha! Have fun in Hawaii! ♥ Erin [ Shortie8959's advice column | Ask Shortie8959 A Question ]
girdy_goo15 answered Saturday July 1 2006, 7:24 pm: i thought i was the only one with that phobia. i was on a 20 hour trip so yeah it was hard. but since you have a laptop then work on something on it, also take some headphones, a book, sleeping always helps, and some cards or something like that.

kevin1986 answered Saturday July 1 2006, 11:04 am: Well, statistics say you're safer in the air than in the sky. I know people who have flown to Hawaii and returned safely. Plane crashes happen so little that they make news when they do. How many flights across the country take off each day and how many crash annually? I don't have the numbers but it's pretty low. Have fun on the trip. [ kevin1986's advice column | Ask kevin1986 A Question ]

My dad works for an airlines, so I've been flying since I was real little. While you`re in the air, keep yourself busy, bring plenty of magazines, books, games (like crosswords) to do. Since you do have a laptop, be sure to charge that before hand and bring it too! You can also bring a CD player, iPod, or MP3 to calm yourself down. The pilots know what they`re doing, so you`ll be safe. Just try to relax, and if you have any questions, the flight attendents will be happy to help you. Safe Travels =) [ duudee_advicer's advice column | Ask duudee_advicer A Question ]
