I was at cheerleading practice yesterday and I must have turned my neck the wrong way to fast cause it popped and started burning. It went away for a minute, then I got this excrusiating pain in my neck. I can't turn it to the right, or lean it back, and if I'm laying down I have to use my hand to pull my neck up when I want to stand up. Has this happened to anyone before, and how long will it last? thanks =]
lyonzrule answered Saturday July 15 2006, 12:30 am: I am active in alot of sports, i also have 3 younger sibblings that like to wrestle w/ me. Usually when my neck hurts i will have trouble moving it and then it will get better. But then i would get headachs. So i went to the chiropractor (sp?) to get me hips realigned for cross country. He said that my neck was out and that was the source of my headachs. If you start getting them maybe talk to your parents about it. Maybe they can help. Notso answered Friday June 30 2006, 2:44 pm: It really depends how much you continue to strain your neck. It shouldn't last longer than 3-4 days though. This happens to me on a fairly regular basis, and if I have a day off to just lay with tonnes of pillows it goes away faster. So obviously even after you are feeling better, take it slowly at practice at first.
If you can, take a muscle relaxer, but I've found the best thing for it is the magic bag. You know those really stinky bean bags you put in the microwave and they get hot? If you don't have any of those, try moist heat, like a hot, wet face cloth. [ Notso's advice column | Ask Notso A Question ]
clearlypink428 answered Friday June 30 2006, 2:21 pm: it sounds as if you got a crook in your neck. ive had them before- mostly from sleeping the wrong way. the last onei had lasted 2, maybe 3 days- but ive had them before to last close to a week. jsut keep it either iced, or heated- whichever you feel comfortable with. but , as much as it hurts- keep trying to move it every once in a while, to keep it from going completely stiff. hope i helped!
