We have a little Chihuahua, and when he goes outside to pee, he pees on his front leg. He does lift his hind leg, and that's when he pees on his front one. If he were to sqat instead, he wouldn't pee on it, but he's a boy dog, so he lifts his leg.
Is there any kind of harness that we can get to keep him from being able to hike his leg when he pees? We go through baby-wipes like mad at this rate. :-(

Get one of those fake plastic fire hydrants, or use a thicker wooden post & place it in a part of the yard away from everything. When you mow, allow the grass to grow around it a bit. You can buy the urine scent that is used for housebreaking at the pet store, spray that scent about 5 inches from the ground, be careful not to let any drip down. That way when your dog want's to mark his territory he will have to lift his leg a little higer to cover the other scent. In addition the grass around the post will act like a sheild to block the urine from going onto his leg. Good luck :-) [ Nallie's advice column | Ask Nallie A Question ]
mayonnaise answered Wednesday June 28 2006, 10:17 am: Hi. My brothers ex had this problem with 2 of her Chihuahuas. One of them grew out of it but the other one didn't. The one that didn't, she took to the vet, and he said the only way to fix it was to get him fixed. So maybe take your dog to the vet and see what he/she says. I guarentee you they can fix it! :D
volcom_kelli answered Wednesday June 28 2006, 8:49 am: I know what you are talking about. I have three of my own. (4months, 4months, and 8months) The 8Months old does that all the time.
And the 4month olds go through puppie pads like crazy too.
I hope things get better for you [ volcom_kelli's advice column | Ask volcom_kelli A Question ]
DeadPoetics answered Monday June 26 2006, 5:16 pm: I get the impression that your dog is rather young, correct? If that's so, then he will probably grow out of this. Many dogs start out not knowing how to hike up their legs, but they soon get tired of wetting themselves and learn to do it right. In the meantime, you should just keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't make a mess.
DancinCutie08 answered Monday June 26 2006, 12:43 pm: maybe you could get him snow boots?
i knwo it sounds silly but we had plastic ones for my dog and they would be much easier to clean
also if he isnt fixed maybe that could help him out because fixing dogs fixes weird habbits.
other than that the only way to fix that is to train him to squat (and yes it is possible) just teach him to squat like you would teach him to sit then eventually you can teach him to pee on command
