I really want to get a kitten, but my mom keeps saying no. My dad says its fine, as long as my mom says yes. The kitten is free, but it still needs shots and stuff. My dad would take care of the fees, but my mom still says no. How do I convince my mom that a kitten is in fact a good idea? What should I say to her to make her say yes?
VixenDark answered Thursday June 22 2006, 6:18 pm: Prove you can handle the kitty.
Try volunteering at the local shelter, or petsitting for your friends/neighbors. Learn about basic cat care, and show how you could do it. Discuss how you'd fit the cat into your life, when you'd feed it, clean its litter box, etc.
If you can show your mom that one, you really want a cat, not just a kitten, and two, that you have seriously thought about what is involved, she will probably say yes.

Show her how responsible you can be by cleaning, taking care of yourself, and just acting very independant. Then let her know that if you had a kitten how much you would love and adore it and that you would clean up every single crap it left for you. Then butter her up and compliment her, tell her she's beautiful, rub her feet, etc. Eventually she should level out. Let me know how it goes.

DD answered Thursday June 22 2006, 2:13 pm: The problem is probably that your mom doesn't feel she can trust you enough to take care of it. If you act really responsible, and do things with out needing to be asked, i'm sure your mom may change her mind. Most kids when they get pets, end up being interested for a couple weeks and then the parents are usually the ones who take care of it. Show her that you are responsible.
