pootietang answered Thursday June 1 2006, 3:05 pm: Other people already answered your question, but they did not mention how many calories you should eat if you are on a diet. If you are trying to lose weight, then you need to burn more calories than you eat. There are websites that tell how many calories various activities help burn. I'll edit the answer with them if I find them. [ pootietang's advice column | Ask pootietang A Question ]
PinkLady4863 answered Thursday June 1 2006, 3:03 pm: depending on how active you are. I would say if you do absolutely nothign and are a smaller frame then 1200 calories a day.
If you are more active, like do sports or go out with your friends; any sort of actual movement everyday. Then I suggest about 1500-1600 a day.
If you are working out alot and building muscle, then 2000 would be a good amount to get you the energy and nutrients you need.
remember too little will slow down your metabolism, making you absorb more fat of everything you eat! Too much will just flat out make you fat. So just eat healthy and a good amount of calories and you'll be just fine.
MikeCFT answered Thursday June 1 2006, 2:27 pm: 9 calories per gram...I'd keep it below 180 calories or 20 grams per day since you really want to rely on carbs for your primary energy...get it from mono and polyunsaturated fats and eat eggs and don't listen to people who tell you the yolk is bad for you- they're very nutritious despite what you hear. Alin75 answered Thursday June 1 2006, 2:04 pm: No estimate can be given with any accuracy whatsoever without knowing your weight, height, activity level, and whether or not you are particularly musclar or fat.
Here is a link to a site that will approximate this for you. Add your BMR to calories burnt in activities (mind you this is a rough estimate)... note that if you are particularly muscular or particularly fat, the calorie estimates will come out too low and too high respectively.
As for fat, the usual recommendation is about 20% of total calories should be from fat. I have however seen as high as 30% being listed as acceptable. Either way, most should be unsaturated. [ Alin75's advice column | Ask Alin75 A Question ]
