Hey im 15/f and i have to get my gall bladder taken out within the next month. Im kind of scared. But i had a couple questions for anybody who thinks that they could "help" me. Okay my first question is do u have to stay over night? Because some of the people i asked said Yes and some said No. Do u have a big scar? And i know that you dont really need your gall bladder it just stores bile. But what is going to happen to my body when i dont have it? Thanks alot i'll rate 5s!!!!
Jess_babii_06 answered Friday May 19 2006, 2:46 pm: Hey...i went through this same thing when i was only 12 years old. My gall bladder totally quit working all together so they had to take mine out immediately. I went home that same day but they did tell me that if i was in pain that i would have to stay over night. When i had mine out they had to cut me 4 different times, once above my bellybutton,2 on my side, and one above my stomach near my chest. They do scar but not that bad...they dont look as bad as you will think. But when they start healing you can get some stuff over the counter that helps scars disappear. You're going to be sore for awhile and all that and not to scare you or anything but now i cant hardly eat anything greasy, spicy,or anything like that. I can hardly even eat cereal now. But things will get better. I hope i didnt scare you too bad. Hope i helped!! if you meed to know anything else write me a message or i can give you my email address.
Hope i helped!!

Gall bladder surgery is no big deal, it's like getting your tonsils out. The surgery itself takes about and hour, that's it. Seriously, don't stress. You should come home on the same day if they do laparoscopic surgery.
If they have to do a different surgery you will be in a few days. That doesn't happen often these days though so don't let it worry you.
You don't have a big scar. They make the biggest incision where your belly button is. If you have an innie belly button, you probably won't see it at all.
Then you will have 2 very small places...I think it is 2, they are such small scars I hardly can see them anymore. Guess that tells you how small they are!
I haven't noticed any changes to my body since having the surgery.
I know its scary for you but it will be okay. You won't be able to lift anything over 10 pounds for a couple of weeks. Other than that recovery is really quick. AND...you will feel oh so much better!
MFS answered Thursday May 18 2006, 9:20 pm: I've not had a gall bladder out, but my wife had her appendix out, and my sister just had hers out - modern surgery leaves usually just a small incision, so you shouldn't worry too much about that.
Functionality, gall bladder removal can affect people differently - depends a bit on your metabolism. Some people don't need to change their diets afterwards, others have to tweek things a bit to compensate - odds are you won't be phased, but by all means, talk to your doctor about it.
