Bella'sAdvice answered Sunday May 7 2006, 4:02 pm: First off if your take medication over the counter and you have to take a urine test make sure that you take the medicine a day or two before and then drink big cups of water non stop till your pee turns clear when you urinate and make sure you keep drinking water till after urine test trust me it should help and it helped me and I have a wonderful job so just drink plenty of water and you'll be able to get that job or another because when you drink water to urine is clear that mean it flushed all drugs out you system
DefinedEyes answered Sunday May 7 2006, 8:48 am: Yes, I got really sick once,
and I had taken severe tylanol cold medicine, and I went to the ER, and my urinalisys (sp..) showed methinphetamine in it too.
So its most likely the cold medicine.
Especially over the counter kinds. [ DefinedEyes's advice column | Ask DefinedEyes A Question ]
MFS answered Friday May 5 2006, 9:05 pm: Any number of over the counter cold remedies contain compounds similar enough in structure to the amphetamines to give a false positive. During the test, they should have given you a form to indicate any medications you take - prescription or OTC, it matters not, it is always in your best interest to list everything.
The decongenstant are really just stimulants, same general family as the amphetamines - ephedrine/pseudoephedrine is one quick organic reaction away from being methamphetamine.
Also, any "herbal" drinks or foods that contain "ephedrine alkaloids" can contian naturally occurring amphetamines- because these drinks and pills are listed as herbal supplements and not drugs, they don't fall under the same scrutiny as actual pharmaceuticals. AskKambrey answered Friday May 5 2006, 7:34 pm: Dear Reader,
There are many things that can cause a pos. on a urine drug test. Even simple things like poppyseed muffins. Anyways in some research I did about meth it said that Over-the-counter cold and asthma medications containing ephedrine are used to produce meth so that might have caused it. I would talk to your doctor for more info about any drugs you are taking.
Hope that helped. Here's a site for more info on meth. [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

AskGwen answered Friday May 5 2006, 12:33 pm: Yes, some over the counter medications can show positive for drugs, as well as Herbs and Vitamins, as well as combinations of both. That’s why you name all the medications, both prescription and over-the-counter you're currently taking. For more information on this search the WebMD site. Tulipg17 answered Friday May 5 2006, 11:43 am: Well, since you CAN make meth using those over the counter products then I would imagine that could have caused your reaction. Talk to a doctor. You could always contest the results....demand another test (or at least find out the policy). [ Tulipg17's advice column | Ask Tulipg17 A Question ]
