Crazy - but worth a shot?

Question Posted Saturday April 29 2006, 5:38 am

Let's say I take the rest of the year off (until summer) and do nothing but work out, like ATLEAST 3 houres/ day. Sometimes more. How much will I lose in that amount of time?

Another scenario, let's say I run 2 houres a day, for the rest of this month ( + eat healthy/ drink lots of water) would that be better? And would that help me loose the extra fat I have?

Don't even waste your time thinking of this scenario. I mean take off until the summer just because you want to lose weight? the President works out everyday and he's the busiest man in the whole world...you can squeeze it in without worrying about taking off.

Now you probably aren't going to listen to me anyway and will probably think I don't know what Iam talking about and that's ok but:

You better be using $20,000 a year worth of steroids to be working out for 3 hours a day everyday. Unless you are using steroids- there is no reason for you to be taxing your body that much for any reason. All you have to do is eat better and exercise for 45 mins to an hour at least 3 times a week...more is not better. It isn't coming fast, and if it does...it isn't staying very long. I think people's main problem when it comes to their approach to fitness is that they think about it too much and they worry about every single calorie and every daunting minute of every workout and worry about their results and just quit after a month or 2 because they don't see the results they want. Especially with fitness- the more you think you know...the more you realize you really don't and everyone, myself included is always learning because simply...we don't know that much because our bodies are complex specimens. However there are always constants and plain facts and here's one Iam going to give you right now that you are going to remember whether you totally hate me for saying it or whether you take it as good advice:

The more you think, the more you stress, the more you do in excess...the more impossible it's going to be to make the changes you want.

It takes time, patience and a whole lot of hard work and discipline. Nobody teaches you discipline..you earn it.

it really all depends.. like i can workout 3 hours a day and gain weight (you gain muscle which weights more) and some people can easily drop 4o pounds in that time

and you prob will lose more weight running but chances are you will get a stress fracture or shin splints before you finish the summer because you will be pushing yourself way to hard (most people recommend at a max run like 20 mins walk 10 and do that for like an hour max unless your training for like a marathon)

okay, i know you're going to be like "shut up bitch " or something, but trust me. 2-3 hours is way overkill forone day. if you do that, you'll only build up resistance to running, and endurance, rather than just burn fat. get up to your target heart rate and keep it there for 20 minutes. so your running should only be 30 minutes a day. then, each week maybe increase the mph by .5 or the incline (if you're running on a treadmil) by .5 each week. that's just the running, but if you want to BURN fat even more? build muscle. strength weight training with just free weights that you have in your house.

Ok, first of all, for both scenarios you would definately lose weight. Whenever you exercise + eat healthy/smart + create a calorie deficit you will lose weight.

That being said, heres whats wrong with those scenarios. The first one is overkill, and you might end up hurting yourself. I am referring to the 3 hours daily workout. Unless you are really fit, and are used to that kind of workload, then its overtraining. Mind you, no matter what, one should never exercise EVERY day... even top athletes get rest days. Its just not good for you.

Now as for the second scenario... The training is still excessive. Two hours of running a day is extremely hard on the body. Also, the time span is not so great. Since it is rarely a good idea to lose more than a couple of pounds a week, all you will lose are a few lbs by the end of the month.

Might I suggest an in between scenario. Ideally, the more long term you plan your fitness the better. The most effective program doesnt really have an end date. It just becomes the way you live your life.

Whatever you do remember your rest days. You should have one a week, more if you are not used to training like this. Also, you will get better results incorporating weight training into your routine. You can get away with less than a total 2 hour workout doing weights plus a cardio and get great results.

Anyway, good luck.
