Ok I am trying to eat healthier (cutting down on sweets...nothing extreme) but my family always has candy in the house, where it is hard not to grab some as you walk by the cabinet. Also, my parents love to treat us to ice cream, and bring home ymmuy baked goods, and i just have a hard time declining them. How can I gain more self control over eating sweets?

In order to gain more self control over this, you need to learn to say no. It is difficult to turn down the things you love, but if its what you want, then you have to do it. Ask your family to be a little more aware of your new healthy diet. You can still eat the little sugary treats you love, but its all in moderation. You could even try sugar free or fat free products.

its good that you want to lose but for what reaon like if its bacause someone called you fat your doing it for the wrong reason .yet doing it for yourslef it souldnt be that hard and its ok to have a lil but aybe like once a week treat yourself to mcdonalds or cookies or anything.ask yor parents for help be like im on a diet and i cant have those dont let me have those.

My sister and mom are like that, but, me, I need to eat. (as in I'm underweight) What we do is I get sweets and stuff and either keep them in my room or my mom hides them in a place away from everyone else. It helps me because I can still eat them, but it also helps my family because they can't. The only time we have sweets out in dishes and stuff is around holidays. Also, maybe you could try asking your parents to only bring home sweets once or twice a week. Then, not only will you not have as much, you will enjoy it even more. However, make sure you still eat the same amount. Try not to splurge on those one or two days.

okay, this is my SUGGESTION so please don't think that you have to do this or anything like that.

what i suggest is, don't deprive yourself. you don't have to COMPLETELY cut yourself off. if there's some kind of baked good, or ice cream, or candy, etc. get half of it. or if you go somewhere, order a small serving instead of a medium or large. if they're large servings, try splitting with someone else.

that way, you don't have to deprive yourself, but you're still cutting back.

also, try not to grab candy or a snack as you walk by. limit yourself to one or two random snacks a day, then don't eat anymore snack like things.

hey! well you obviously don't want to deprive your entire family of eating sweets just because you don't want to eat them. regardless, just tell them the plan. explain to them that you don't want to eat junk food anymore, and ask if maybe they can cut down a little bit on how much they buy.

in addition, ask them to pick up a few healthy snacks for you... let's face it, it's almost impossible to cut down on sweets COMPLETELY if you are really used to eating them. by healthy i mean something like whole grain granola bars, yogurt, raisins, low fat ice cream and sherbert, lots of fruit... things like that! my family barely eats junk food because my mom always has fresh fruit washed and ready to eat in a bowl in the living room. try doing that, it deffinitely helps!

now, the junk food they buy that you want to avoid... have all that put in a separate cabinet, away from the stuff you want to eat. that way you will never have to open it or see what is in it and you won't be tempted to have any of it!

and if you are not eating sweets, then i suggest eliminating soda and drinking water and juices instead! that stuff has insane amounts of sugar in it and it's so unhealthy! but you don't have to cut sweets and junk food totally out of your life... there is nothing wrong with treating yourself once or twice a week! :)
