Couch Potato Syndrome

Question Posted Saturday April 15 2006, 2:03 pm

So I am a "couch potato" so to speak, but I actually just plain don't like exercise. For 5 years I have not done anything besides being forced to in gym class. How do I start exercising again? I want to focus on running.

hey. if you want to break your couch potato habit then i suggest starting off with lots of short workouts each day. start small, so you may want to jog for 10 minutes around your block, or do light cardio. after about a week once you have gotten used to moving again, you can start to increase your work out. remember to be consistant. jog for 20 minutes or do some pushups and situps. the most important thing is to be patient because results dont come immediently. here are some websites that might help:

I'm such a couch potato as well. Recently, I decided I wanted to get into shape, so I started running. Just half an hour every day, even going for a nice walk... For the first few days I was so tired and my legs were sore and I just wanted to go watch tv... but that went away and it started to get easy.

You probably don't realize this, but gym class is what is keeping you at your weight or around your weight. I gained about 15 pounds because I got into highschool and stopped taking gym. You need to do running, walking... bike riding, swimming. Start off slow, a little more every day. It gets easier and funner, and find some friends to do it with. You can still spend time on the couch too!

No one really loves to exercise, but there's no other way than to just do it. Just tell yourself you don't wanna be a 'couch potato' anymore and get outside & do stuff. The only way it's going to happen is if you make yourself, or atleast try. good luck!

if you are in middle school you can try out for a sport so to speak * track, cross country, soccer, etc. * maybe ask one of your friends to start playing soccer or running with you.

i use to be a couch potato myself.
hehe.

good luck =D

just get out there and do it! it will feel so good. the hardest part is actually standing up and going outside, once you've done that it gets much easier and you will want to do it.
hope this helps
