concentrating on homework

Question Posted Sunday March 19 2006, 5:22 pm

Everyday when I get home, I know I should do homework. But I always find something else to do, like going on the computer, going outside, etc. I'm always up really late. One time I came home and started doing my homework, but my mind was jumping allover and I couldn't do it. Any suggestions?? Thanks and I rate 5's for good answers...

I spent the majority of my life at school doing exactly the same thing! It's a right of passage for most people at school to procrastinate from their studies. I was lucky because I actually did come away with some good results...but I look back now and wish so much that I had made more of an effort!!

Here's the thing, when you've been at school working all day, your brain needs some time switch off, tune out and relax for a while. If you think about it, when your parents come home from work in the evenings, they probably collapse in front of the TV or computer for a bit, rather than get straight on with housework, don't they?

What you need to do is make sure that every day when you come home, you have set amount of time to do something relaxing that you enjoy. Set yourself an hour on the PC for example, or an hour in front of the TV. Then, no matter what, get on with your homework. You can also give yourself a bribe. Mine was always a piece of chocolate for every piece of homework I finished.

I hate to say it, because it makes me sound like my parents, but although it sucks and you hate homework right now, it's never a good idea to put it off because you will regret not working harder when you have left school!

ansley says - well, make a schedule for you everyday, make the schedules different for everyday so you dont get bored but homework deff needs to be first second or at least third everyday, make your parents keep you inside or make you do your homework before you can do anything else, it would also help if you did your homework in a room with no computers or tvs or anything distracting, hope this helped you!!

Well, you may have some type of attention disorder, such as ADD or ADHD. Talk to your parents for help. Or, if you have a study hall, try doing your homework then! :) Hope I helped!

when you get home, take 1 hour and do whatever you want for an hour, watch tv, go on the computer, dance around, watever you want. and then do the easiest work that you have, one that you will do really quickly and then do the hardest. after that take a break, and then do whatever else you have to do. and make sure to drink a lot of water because that helps you concentrate. do you do any sports or anything? because that really helps. if your involved in more activities, it helps you get your homework done faster because you want to finish it quicker. you could also get like an alarm clock and time yourself for every homework that you do... let's say that you give yourself no more than an hour to do math... set it alarm for an hour.. do that for every other homework. set goals for what time you want you hw finished by. for example, you can say, i'm not staying up past 11 today doing homework, and try to fulfill those small daily goals. i hope i helped =) good luck

Ask your parents and friends for help - to remind you to go do your work right away. Maybe instead of going on the computer or doing something for a long time, shorten it down and limit yourself.

Write it down and keep a schedule that makes time for homework and try to stick to it. Give yourself a due time - that your homework has to be finished by a certain time - and you can only do homework from that time until the limit. Shorten your breaks to 5 minutes or less. Make sure you work where there is no distraction, such as people, radio, tv, phone, etc. So talk to the people you know, siblings, family, friends to help you by telling you that you need to do your work right away instead of other things or talking to them. Hope that helped and good luck.

P.S. - if you don't have one already, get a watch
