If the retainer is slightly too small to start with, it might hurt a little bit but that eventually gets straightened out. Even if you think you look dorky with the retainer, you need to be prepared to do what the dentist tells you to do. He/she knows what he/she's talking about when it comes to teeth... the braquets come like nothing. the only thing for me (i have verrrry sensitve teeth) was when they had to like scratch off the glue off. that kind of hurts. but not that much.
your teeth might ache a little bit like the next day or something...but not likely.
