Hi, I'm Erika, and this is the first question I'm asking on Advicenators. For my HS, we're doing an AD Sweep downtown. My teacher says we need to dress nice, sophisticated, and casual... and I'm not a very businessy type of person, so is there anything I could wear that would be, you know, "sophisticated"??? Also, we can't wear pants.
JavaJunkie90 answered Wednesday March 8 2006, 11:58 pm: Yay! I swayed Lovik (my teacher) to let us wear dress pants!!! So I've decided to make it a little funky!!! Yet, I'm remaining classy. I'm wearing brown gauchos that have gold pinstripes (pinstripes are businessy). A gold shrug that is cropped, but you dont button it, it's a pull-over(very cute). Under the shrug, I'm going with a white shirt with lace at the bottom. And Gold ballet flats... is this okay??? [ JavaJunkie90's advice column | Ask JavaJunkie90 A Question ]
ncblondie answered Tuesday March 7 2006, 5:35 pm: I did something similar when I was in highschool. I wore a black skirt that hit just above the knee and a simple blouse. The first time I wore heels, but I quickly learned they get uncomfortable after a while and switched to dressy flats. Makeup should be subtle. Now isn't the time to try a new look. Jewelry should also be subtle. A pair of earrings, a simple necklace and maybe a ring or two should be more than enough. For your hair, you want something that keeps it out of your face. Otherwise, you'll spend the entire time brushing your hair back. I did a French braid. Not only does it keep your hair out of the way, it also looks elegant. jbdreamer answered Tuesday March 7 2006, 1:37 pm: I am confused why you can't wear pants - espesially if the look you are trying to pull of is casual sophisticted. A pair of nice black slacks can look just a good as a skirt, and is much more practical. Even in the bussiness world, I rarely wear a skirt. Are you sure they just don't mean jeans or casual pants?
ThugGirl041790 answered Tuesday March 7 2006, 6:38 am: well wear a skirt..I wouldn`t wear it too short you know maybe a little bit above the knee but not too much.. I`d wear a black one..Find a nice shirt maybe a white blouse or a nice lookin blouse and wear nice heeled shoes to match.. i suggest wearing hair down your decision and a lil bit of make up maybe..♥Dez [ ThugGirl041790's advice column | Ask ThugGirl041790 A Question ]
AskCary answered Monday March 6 2006, 11:04 pm: It sounds like the dress code is nice/casual with an emphasis on the nice. Since you can't wear pants, I think choosing a skirt is a good place to start. I suggest that you keep it simple and choose a skirt in a solid neutral color such as brown or black. A hemline that is one inch above the knee is flattering on almost everyone and will not be too short for the occasion. For your top, wear a long sleeve button up blouse with a collar and wear a long sleeved v-neck sweater that is lightweight over the blouse. Wear heels and have fun!!
