Jobs for a 15 year old?

Question Posted Tuesday January 24 2006, 6:24 pm

Lately, our family has hit a financial problem. Today I was told something very shocking(sorry..but not going to say it). It hit me that, maybe, I need a job to atleast help my family and me a little bit. I know you guys get this question alot, but I seriously never thought I would need to find a job at such a young age. If you guys can answer a couple of questions it'll help me ALOT.

1) What jobs can I find at 15?? (Please be specific)
2) How much money SHOULD I get? Like, minimum wage? How much is that suppose to be? And what do I do if it isn't the minimum?
3) Do I even have a chance??

Thanks so much. I appreciate it. Really

i live in california, and even at my age of 19 with some experiance it is pretty hard to find a job. your best best is to get an unofficial job. i lend out money with intrest and that keeps me in movie tickets and jumbo jacks. most places around here wont hier anyone under 16 so your best bet is stuff like baby sitting or lawn mowing. you can of course try local buisenness but at 15 if you want official work you are going to need a work permit and the place most likely to hier you would be a mom and pop shop type of buisseness

after a brief look through google, i wasn't able to find the legal age to work in california. but i'm sure you could find it with a more in depth search.

You best bet? I'd say baby sitting. While the minium wage is around 5-6 bucks an hour, for baby sitting 7$ is low (i'm canadian by the way so my money might be a little off from yours, just bear with me).

there are many different ways to get baby sitting jobs. get your mom to call her friends, ask your own friends. If your moms okay with it then post signs on lamp posts. Also a sign with your phone number at a elementary school is a great way to get jobs. Also thing to keep in mind. if you do end up baby sitting, you need to be the best baby sitter to the kids so they will alway ask for you back.

your goal? A nice rich family with two or more kids (if you can handle it).

Good luck! You DO have a chance, you have no idea how many parents are looking for baby sitters these days.

I Know that minimum wage is about 6 bucks an hour, and you might be able to get a job at like a grocery store, or some sort of small shop. You can always try babysitting! I hope your family's financial problem gets worked out. i wish you the best!

1) A grocery store(probably the one you have the best chance with), Block buster, Video store somthing like that, A owned buisness,Mcdonalds,Fast food resturants.
2) You will only get minimum wage at first guessing. as in like $5 a hour or somthing close to that.
3) yeah you have a chance. But it also depends on the state laws. In texas you can start working at 14 at like sonic and stuff. So if its anything like texas you could get a job!

At 15 your options are severely limited. Your best chances are at a grocery store. You will not be able to work full time. You will only be paid minimum wage. If you happen to know someone who runs their own business they may be able to use your help and pay you under the table but that's not any better than working at a Winn-Dixie. Hope things get better for you soon.
