i'm doing a project on ghosts and i need to conclude my essay about the believer's and non-believer's views and i'm a bit stuck for ideas! i've written about a few perspective's but i need a few more.

so for what reasons would a person either believe or not believe in ghosts?
Any personal views or points in general would be a great help thank you :)

I am an agnostic when it comes to ghosts. As a scientist, I can't think of any good, rational, scientifically valid reason why they should exist. On the other hand, as a scientist, I know that I can't prove they don't exist.

My family members and I have seen things that are hard to explain. My son firmly believes that our house (which was built in 1825) is haunted. He hears footsteps on the stairs, finds the cabinets opened up in the kitchen, and once heard her call his name. The ghost takes bites out of cakes and plays the keyboard. My daughter and I, on the same day, smelled a strong scent of a woman's perfume in the house, and no one in our family wears the stuff.
But the strangest thing that I have seen (and my son saw it too)... we were sitting on the couch, watching a movie, when the French doors to the study began to bulge outwards as if someone were pushing at them from the inside. We keep that room closed and locked to keep the cats out of there. I looked at my son, and said, "I'm going to see if there's a cat locked in there." There was no cat in there, and no air moving in the study, or the livingroom. The doors continued to flex for the rest of the evening... and never again after that one night. We say that it was the ghost, and I half believe it... but I also can't help thinking there is a natural explanation that I was missing.

The belief in ghosts is more complex than it would appear on the surface. Someone's religion could have a significant influence in the belief of ghosts. Some religions almost forbid the line of thought that a soul can come back in ghostly form while some religions promote the existence of spirits, dieties, ghosts and angels. However, even stronger than religion is the internal belief that we have a soul or spirit and that soul or spirit can live after our body dies. This belief accounts for centuries of paranormal ghost sightings... the idea that we need to believe life goes on. The argument for not believing in ghosts is equally as complex. Medeival europeans believed the earth was flat for centuries and any argument to the contrary was considered heresy. So... religion, societal views and restrictions and even your upbringing can account for non-belief. Another reason to not believe can be found in the testimony of former long-time "ghost hunters"... paranormal specialist who now belief that ghosts do not exist. There are more than a few that now say ghostly emissions have other "real world" physical origins. Some of these explanations are quite complex, very entertaining and entirely plausible. In the end, it is your internal belief structure... outside the confines of religion, politics, and society... that most often determines your views on ghosts.

Well, you could end it with a nice, awesome bible verse. Here are a few which mention the word 'spirit' or 'ghost'

Zechariah 6:5
And the angel answered and said to me, “These are four spirits of heaven, who go out from their station before the Lord of all the earth.

Matthew 8:16
[ Many Healed in the Evening ] When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick,

Matthew 12:45
Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.”

Luke 4:36
Then they were all amazed and spoke among themselves, saying, “What a word this is! For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.”

Matthew 14:26
And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear.
^That's more talking about Jesus...but they mention ghosts, which can help.

I love you,
God bless,
The Waffler

One reason a person might believe in ghosts is religion. Most religions have some sort of spirits. Personal experiences have a lot to do with whether a person believes in ghosts or not. "Seeing" is believing. That's one reason why people trust the "evidence" that technology can reveal. I don't know how much I helped, but I hope I did! Good luck with your essay. :)

Some people don't believe in the paranormal, which is ghosts, witches, fortune tellers etc etc, some people think they are made up myths that are flat out dumb.
Some find careers trying to prove those things are real.

well, i dont know what you have written about, but ill throw some things out there for you, if you wanna help i have all mycontact info on my site...(im into the paranormal stuff lol)

For personal views...everyone is different.A lot of people think that is stupid and that is fine, but i believe in them a little, but i dont think i will be until i get good hard proof.

now for "reasons"... well, there is a tool, and EMF reader that reads energy. it picks up things from mechanics, and they are believe to be able to pick up a spirit.
so with that in mind...our body has energy, right? thats how doctors can tell when a person is dead or not right? when the blood stops pumping and you turn cold? Well, where does that energy go when someone dies? People believe that when they use an EMF reader and they get a ditection and they cant prove where the source is coming from, they determine it may be a spirit.
sometimes things happen that can be explained, but sometimes there arent. I think there is something else causing things.
There is also asomething called an EVP, electronic voice phenomina, where you are recording something and an unknown voice or sound appears on your recording. i think these are impressive, but it doesnt always mean you have come in contact with a ghost.

Basically, i think you could put something like there are things that can cause a non-believer to believe, but no one will truelly be a hard believer until there is good hard evidence. It is like a religion, and everyones outlook is different.
