Broken toe

Question Posted Friday January 20 2006, 11:05 am

Last night I fell down the stairs and landed pretty hard on my "big toe" on my right foot. This morning, when I woke up, it was swolen and slightly bruised. It's extremely painful. I went down the stairs to ask my dad about it, and I forgot to walk on the side of my foot; I took a normal step (foot flat on the ground) and it hurt so bad that I started crying. I have a ballroom dance class and a Jewish/Russian dance class this afternoon. Going to a doctor is not an option. My dad thinks I broke it. What I want to know is, what can I do to make it less painful to dance and walk on? I've already taken pain reliever, but should I tape two toes together?
Thanks.

I don't think you broke it. you most likely just sprained it. a sprain is a simple stretch or tear of the ligaments, by your description of your toe being swollen, and slightly bruised I think it's a sprain. sprains take a while to heal depending on how bad, and how fast you start to take measure on healing it

somethings you can do is put ice on it but!! don't put it on for a long time id say every 15 min and then take it off for a few minutes before putting it on again. this is cause you don't want to damage your already swollen tissue.

try not to move you toe to much (decrease the stress on your right foot)

squeeze your toe (not to the point where its painful) but just every so often to help it move a little more every time with out pain.

id also recommend not dancing or doing any thing with you toe for at least 3 days, if you put to much pressure on an already sprained foot it could lead to a permanent injury, at least that's what I heard.

You can't do much sbout a broken toe. Taping them together is how they heel so do that and use a lot of ice. You cannot dance. Dancing will upset it greatly and if you dance it will take longer to heel. Stay off it as much as possible.

There is nothing a doctor can really do about a broken toe. All you can do is ice it up alot and stay off as much as you can keep your leg elavated as in above your heart. laying on a couch and putting your leg on pillows or the arm of the couch. You can try and tape your two toes together but its hard.

Read the information on that site it explains everything hope i helped.

your dance classes are whats out of the question.. the more pressure you put on that toe.. the worse its going to get..

step one: go see a doctor
step two: rest the foot keep weight off it
step three: all better :D

if you go to these dance classes.. its going to get worse and worse and worse

>>>
mandatory shmandatory.. noone can force you to dance.. if its going to cause damage to you then its better off not doing it.. turn up by all means.. but keep of the damn foot

Unfortunatly if you break a toe there is not much that can be done. There is no point for you to go to the doctor. I would recomend keeping off your foot when possible, and take your shoes off when you can. Give your toe room to breath. Is there any way you can take a break from dancing for the day (at least). Putting stress on it will only make it worse. If you must dance, make sure to ice it when you get home.

Taping your toes together might give it a little more support. But really there is not much you can do for a broken toe. It just needs time to heal.
