Do people hear their own singing voices accurately? Like if you listen to yourself while you sing, is what you hear at all like what everyone else hears? I recorded myself with a $40 recorder---it was muffled and awful and didn't sound a bit like when I hear myself when I sing

And since a recoider like you buy at the wal*mart doesn't have a special device, it doesn't sound like your voice anyway.
ShYbl0nD3 answered Friday January 20 2006, 1:28 pm: when i recorded my self on the computer it sounded horrible but when i recorded myself on my tape recorder it sounded more of what i heard. so the better the equiptment is then the more acurate you voice will be from what you hear. which also means that youd need a more upper class recording studio. the one im going to has really good sound but its like 130$ an hr during the day and 90$ at night.. which is expensive but i know how it will sound. So it basically depends. [ ShYbl0nD3's advice column | Ask ShYbl0nD3 A Question ]

No, people do not hear their own singing voices accurately. Part of the problem with listening to yourself while you sing is that your voice resonates in your head and it alters the way you hear it. The resonance disrupts it all.
Chances are neither perception is accurate - the recording or the way you hear yourself.
Doesn't it suck?
