chocolate obsession

Question Posted Tuesday January 17 2006, 7:51 pm

i am certainly not a fat girl, but i am not the skinniest either. i am pretty happy with the way i look, but i want to drop a few pounds/make my stomach flatter. i already know exercises for that & i do them every night, so that's not my problem. the real problem is that i am addicted to chocolate. i want to be able to eat some chocolate maybe once a week for dessert, but i wind up having it everyday, sometimes more then once a day. it's not like i am a horse eating until i pop, but i tell myself i am not going to eat it but then an hour later my mouth starts to water & i can't resist some. i need a way to stop this temptation. how can i take control & not give in to having chocolate? what works for you or other people you know? i need some good tips, so if you have an idea that would be great! thank you!

Clear your house of all the chocolate, and when your really get the urge, grab an apple, orange...any fruit you have! Drink lots of water, and when shopping, ignore the chocolate stands, or you'll end up buying it! Good luck!

ok, i use to be the EXACT SAME WAY...trust me i saw this on a show and it works completely!!!!
alright so what you do is pour yourself some water with a few drops of lemon juice in it and this may sound wierd but a TINY bit of olive oil. this has worked for everyone i know of... so just try it and if it doesnt work than i have a few more ways so just drop one in my inbox...

hope the craving stops...good luck

You can (and should) clear your house of any and all junk food if you want to avoid temptation. Instead, consider some healthier snacking alternatives like raw vegetables, unbuttered popcorn, unsalted nuts, and the like. If you want something sweet, you can purchase dried fruits like raisins, apricots, and banana chips, although I must stress that you should try to ensure that you find organic varieties.

Switching to low-fat chocolate goodies is also an option, but *do* keep in mind that even if something is low-fat, it still has calories so you should use such foods sparingly. Excessive calories is what contributes to the ballooning of children and adults everywhere. Another alternative is chocolate hard candies.

Finally, if you find that you can't resist (and you really ought to work on that "willpower" thing) then you may wish to compensate for the added fat and calories by having smaller portions in other meals. Don't skip actual food for a giant, late night chocolate gorgefest, by the way. Delicious as it may be, chocolate is definitely NOT a food group by itself.

I have the same problem as you at 14. But it isnt chocolate. Its just that im addicted as you said it to bigger portions. I am not fat either but im not skinny. But im working on it. You see, i dont know if ou know this or not but maybe instead of eating the chocolate, it is said to be healthier to eat bigger healthier snacks through the day(fruits, veggies, the chocolate chip 100 calorie packs). It is proven that if you eat more bigger portions of the healthier snacks(just dont go crazy), you will be forced in a way to eat smaller meal portions giving yu tht edge that you want where you can eat chocolate. Because you were eating healthier snacks, and smaller meals throughout the day, you can have a litlle chocolate here and there. It is will power that drives people to what they want to do. You just need to find the will power deep down and hope it is enught to stop from eting chocolate all the time. Once in awhile is okay(especially on your b-day). I hope this helped. :-}

Have you tried finding some low-fat chocolate dessert recipes? That would help to ease the craving while reducing calories. I'm giving you a couple links to recipes.

Another option is simply switching to lower fat versions of chocolate. For instance, low-fat chocolate pudding. If you feel you must give in to the craving, try the miniature candy bars. They're usually enough to deal with the craving and aren't as high-fat as a normal size chocolate bar.

Sometimes, just doing something else for a little while when the craving hits will help. Most cravings don't last that long. By doing something else, perhaps exercising or going for a walk, you can avoid the temptation until the craving passes.

I have one last suggestion. I'm normally not a chocolate fan, but since I've been pregnant, I crave it daily. My doctor recommended I try Viactiv chocolates. They're small chocolates that also provide your body with needed calcium. You can find them on the vitamin aisle at the drugstore.

O my gosh it is scary you described me like just a few weeks ago. Scary... anyways. What I did to stop the temptation was drink a lot of water. That keeps you full. Sometimes when you think you are hungry and/or need somethign sweet to eat it really is just that you are dehydrated or thirsty.
Another thing is to STAY AWAY FROM CHOCOLATE. If you have any candy bars, little mini size snack ones, or any type of chocolate stash it away in a cupboard so it is out of sight. That decreases the temptation to eat it. When you see it it triggers the feelign YOU NEED IT!
Good Luck I hope things turn out (<~:*spectacular*:~>) !!! e

i know how addicting it is!! just don't have any around... don't buy chocolate. or if you want to be smart about it, have some limits...have chocolate but only one funsize treat a day so you won't be deprieved of it. <3
