I'm not a public speaker The problem I have is speaking in front of people. I get sweaty, nervous, my heart starts beating, and I just can't talk. How do I cure this? Is there a possible way to overcome it? Or am I stuck with it for life?
I'm a 14 year old male.

HA this is me. my hands starting sweating and my face turns red. you just have to try and breathe slowly and concetrate on it. plus think about the worst thing that can happen while talking to people. for example if you were making a speech in front of your class, the worst thing that can happen is just..well hardly anything. just calm down. ]
this is normal for a teen.
and we all go through this stage.. some last for a few years.. some for a few months.
i had a shorter case of this, and it was about a year.
this year i can talk to BIG groups .. no problem.
some things that i did ..
was i made friends in my classes.. so i would know the people i was talking to .. when i was talking in front of them i didnt bore them, because i would fit my speach to the things that would keep them awake.
another thing that i did was i didnt just jump infront of the class make a perfect speach, no way.. i wish.
you can make note cards when you make a speach, so you will have what you want to talk about in front of you *but dont read off of that*
and i started off just looking at one person, and then i start looking around the room.
believe it or not, but it's easier to look around the room .. then in one spot. because when you move your head and body around you dont have to concintrate on some one to look at.
you just have to be self confident and believe that you can do it.
you can also go to a speach class.. and it teaches you how to make a speach.
but all will go swell .. good luck &hearts' ]
Dear 14 year old male,
Public speaking is the number one fear in the U.S.. There are things you can do to overcome this. You can take a public speaking class. Try making speeches in front of one or two people, then gradually increase. Try even speaking in front of stuffed animals. When you're in front of a bunch of people, don't look at them, look above their heads, so you're talking to the wall. Pretend you're in your room speaking to those stuffed animals again. You're not stuck with it for life.

yeah i have the same thing. My friends in my class and if i look at her i start cracking up. I dont look at my class.. i look at a poster.
try that ]
hey! well i used to have this problem, but this year things are sort of different. what i do is once i get up in front of the class i just think that i'm talking to my group of friends (i know i know, some classes, hardly anybody is your friend in there, but PRETEND) i know it sounds like one of those things that is easier said than done, but it seriously does take a lot of the stress away. whenever you start to get nervous, just think of a couple of your friends and act like its a casual conversation with them.

ok...so a lot of people have this problem...I used to but then once i got into highschool i was doing a lot more public speaking and i just got over it.
so mainly what people are worried about when publicly spekaing is the audience not accepting them. So when you write a speech or whatever, practice reading it outloud in front of a few a few times. Gain confidnce with your writing and then you will have more confidence when reading it to other people.
If that doesnt help...theres always that old trick...picturing the audience in their underwear.
