*TV: - so many channells! Americans spend too much time watching the box (which often advertises fast food and candy directly to children) and not going out to...
*...Exercise: if you eat more energy than you burn off, fatness will ensue! To improve this situation, Americans should focus more attention and money on health and fitness in school via the media.
*Genetics? Some people believe genetic reasons can be blamed, i.e. their parents were good at storing fat, so their children are too. "In times when food was scarce, the ability to take advantage of rare periods of abundance and use such abundance by storing energy efficiently was undoubtedly an evolutionary advantage. Individuals with greater adipose reserves were more likely to survive famine." (wikipedia.org/wiki/Obesity#Causes) So back in the caveman days if you were good at storing fat, you survived!
*Job - yes, even your job can make you fat! America is a very developed country, and a lot of jobs are now manegerial as opposed to manual labour. So for example more people are sitting in front of a computer instead of chopping down trees or whatever. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]

duzzie19 answered Thursday January 5 2006, 4:20 pm: -fast food (mcdonalds, etc...the reason being you all are business oriented and always on your feet...less value of culture)
-the media (they make it look cool to be stick-skinny)
-lazyness (because of technology, so much of what you do is easy and nonphysical, and because you have less time, so much is spent in business/travel/jobs ETC, little time for exercise)
xxoBriannax answered Thursday January 5 2006, 1:12 pm: -Americans are lazy
-There is so much more junk food out today than there was 30 years ago
-Alot of people have eating disorders due to depression and other medical problems
-There is alot more transportation today than there used to be
-We don't develop good eating habit as kids anymore and that stays with us all through life [ xxoBriannax's advice column | Ask xxoBriannax A Question ]

You could compare the American lifestyle to that of the Roman empire, right before it collapsed.
As they became indulgent, and consumed only with their own pleasure, they had many of the same problems we have.
As a whole Americans are less active than their counterparts around the world.
Life is very easy here by comparison. We do not have to struggle for much.
Practically everyone here has a car, where in most other countries practically nobody has one.
We spend our time in idle diversions, like video games, rather than sports or having to work the land to feed our families.
We are fat, because we are physically lazy, eat horrible plastic foods that make our body sick and/or eat a great deal more than we should.
Talk about the fast food and how it's SO GOOD that everyone has to eat it. How all American's (or most) are lazy. The different health problems that will prevent you from losing weight, or make you gain it. [ xXxpinky615xXx's advice column | Ask xXxpinky615xXx A Question ]
