A few good places would be.. hospitals, nursing homes, the YMCA, and homeless shelters.

If you don't like the idea of working with old people, there are ususally other things for hospital volunteers to do. I was in a program at my local hospital where you had the choice of doing "behind the scenes" things, or being around the patients.. so you might wanna check some of that out too.

I did somethings with mentally challenge people, i help with a christmas dance for them, and baked yummy foods are gained 2 hours, for CS. But please only do that if you can stand them,
when i first when i was totally freaked out, may seem odd but it is a pretty erm.."scary" place.
You can do nursing homes && go to the local dog pound. My brother, did some stuff at good will (the store)

If there's a hospital nearby, you could try candy-striping.

Basically, you deliver flowers and cards to rooms, visit, take patients their food, etc. I'm going to be starting that this sumer, actually.

But yeah, that's always a great idea.

(That's candy STRIPE-ing, not STRIPPING, by the way. =D)

Have you considered volunteering at a nursing home? Many nursing home residents get few visitors so it's a great way to make someone's day while fulfilling your community service hours. Another option is volunteering at your local food kitchen or Meals on Wheels. You can also ask at your local Social Services about community programs you can volunteer for.
