Question Posted Thursday December 29 2005, 4:36 am
First of all, please don't give me the evils or alcohol or drugs or any crap like that, I'm of legal age where I live.
Secondly, about a month ago, I got drunk. This was the first time I got actually drunk with a hangover and all. I used to drink before that and ocassionally got tipsy but this time I let all self control go and downed a two six of Smirnoff with my friend. I threw up and was sick all of the next day.
About a week later, I took a sip of Vodka again and promptly threw up. Now, everytime I thing about drinking Vodka, I feel like I know I'm going to be ill.
New Years is coming up and I bought a lot of alcohol and now I'm afraid I won't be able to drink it. Can any one find a remedy for this? The thought of not being able to drink is thoroughly depressing.

I over-drank one night with it and haven't been able to even smell the stuff since. My suggestion, if you're going to drink is yes, to drink less (not to the "I'm drunk" stage) and yes, to drink something not quite as hard as straight vodka... but also, try switching alcohol. Try drinking 7 and 7's. (seagram's and seven-up) or an amaretto sour, or Captain and Dr. Pepper. Something other than Vodka (much as you may like it) usually does the trick. Cassandra_Dawn answered Thursday December 29 2005, 6:57 pm: Try drinking less, and buying something a little less harder than vodka. Or if you still want vodka..mix it with something..like coke. That should take the edge off a bit. [ Cassandra_Dawn's advice column | Ask Cassandra_Dawn A Question ]
LadyGoodman answered Thursday December 29 2005, 6:17 am: Maybe it's just with vodka. It's some pretty nasty stuff. Maybe if you just stick with fruitier drinks with some type of other hard liquor in them you'll be okay? Fruitier drinks or "chick" drinks allegedly always give worse hangovers though due to all the sugar, so be careful with that. I don't know what you think about beer but that's a good deal different from vodka.
Either way, I've become sick once off of vodka and I had the same thing you did for a while, but it does go away completely after a month or two. I still stay away from it though...it tastes horrible and just isn't worth it to me. [ LadyGoodman's advice column | Ask LadyGoodman A Question ]
AttentiveNAtlanta answered Thursday December 29 2005, 5:32 am: I read something about this before. It deals with taste aversion. Basically this is a theory based on one time learning. When animals in the wild eat another animal of a certain color and get really sick they won't eat that animal every again. What you may have to do is try drinking a beverage that is a bit less alcoholic. Something that actually tastes good as a opposed to something that will get you drunk. Drink it in moderation and don't get wasted. It is probably a good thing that you can't drink to that point to begin with. But that is my advice to you. Have a Happy New Year and drink responsibly.
