DirtySchmageggie answered Wednesday January 11 2006, 10:05 pm: I'm sorry but luckybutt is describing Autism Spectrum correctly. It takes many forms, often can be similar to, confused with or connected to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I would argue that Autism is more emotional and OCD is more irrational and ritualistic. I have lived with severe OCD my whole life. With a combination of therapy and medication (whether over the counter or some people swear my herbal..) it is managable..
I'm not highly familiar with the term "intruding mental issue" but from what I gather is it signal symptoms of the onset of a disorder. So it is unspecified but not undetected. I am not a doctor (yet) but my guess is that if you have OCD and Schizophrenia and have been diagnosed with GAD with social phobia.. then it is possible that you could develop into Agoraphobia which is advanced social phobia. Meaning you wouldn't leave your house, don't like to be touched by people, don't answer the phone/doorbell etc.
The best thing to do is to actually speak to your mental health care provider. A lot of people make the mistake of getting diagnosed and then not asking questions. It is the first step to fixing your problems. If you have signs of a mental disability be proactive in your research and recovery and you might be able to stop it before it starts.

Also if you are curious.. I know it is a soap opera but All My Children there is a character called Lilly who has Autism Spectrum and they do an excellent job portraying the disorder. She's a wonderful actress and it is easy to believe that she really is Autistc. The writers really did their research. [ DirtySchmageggie's advice column | Ask DirtySchmageggie A Question ]

Autism can come in so many different forms so there is really no way to describe it.
there are different levels on it.
They just look at things differently then us and more literally.
Like if you said to them "get out of here thats not true"
they`d literally walk out of the room
or if you said
"this is gay"
they`d really think its homosexual.
This is only some types of autism though.. I know there are several different types. [ xMiSSMEAGHAN's advice column | Ask xMiSSMEAGHAN A Question ]
luckybutt32 answered Monday December 5 2005, 12:45 am: hi i am a behavior management specialist and i have 11 clients in my class half of them are autistic. most people with autism have "rituals". like one girl in my class has to sit and flip pages in a book all day and if you take the book from her she will feel upset. she is nonverbal. she also has a headbanging issue. some autistic people like to focus on one thing all day like puzzles. most cant deal with a change in scenery or environment. it is a very broad diagnosis. if you have any questions i can help you with let me know i know alot about mental disorders. obsessive compulsions are alot different and not as severe as autism. many people with obsessive compulsions can deal with society where as a person with autism can sometimes be put in dangerous situations due to thier handicap. example they may have a ritual of picking up papers and if one is in the middle of the freeway they will walk out and get it . that would be more on the autistic level. This can be a problem because when people tell you to eat you probly deniy them and shut them out. What i can tell from you already, not even knowing you is that your seeking help and this is not autistic! Dont be scared if they pycologists say you do have autim, they may be wrong. They try some meds but it may not help. If this happens dont be scared! My friend was diagnosed with Manic Desspressive disorder, ADHD, and Angsiaty issues all in the same day! So dont be worried, it will all turn out good in the long run! [ BeautyBaby800's advice column | Ask BeautyBaby800 A Question ]
cheburashka answered Sunday December 4 2005, 1:37 pm: well, you have to understand that the labeling of these "disorders" is very vague and doesn't really mean anything. it's very common for several disorders to go together because they might have been caused by the same thing. treat this as just one problem and forget about the labels. livingLIKEloversxx answered Sunday December 4 2005, 12:43 pm: if you have an intruding mental illness it means that one's coming. authism is a learning dissability. It can either be very serious, or not very serious. Sadly, mental illnesses can seldom be treated with actual medicine. Im not sure if i helped because i didnt really get the question.
