Drill team VS Dance studio

Question Posted Monday October 31 2005, 7:27 pm

I am a sophomore in high school and in love with dance. I am currently on my school drill team and I also dance for a studio that I've been at for about 7 years.

My parents have recently noticed a drop in my grades because of dance. I'm usually an A student with an occasional. But, for the past 2 grading periods (the only 2 of my sophomore year so far) I've gotten C's. To some of you that doesn't sound bad but I don't get Cs...ever. I care about my grades very much and so do my parents.

And that brings me to my problem:
My parents aren't making me quit dance but they are making me choose between my dance studio and my school drill team.

I can't quit my studio because I've been there for what seems like forever and I love it too much. I've made so many friends and I can't imagine not dancing there.

But, I also can't quit my drill team. It's what keeps me sane in school. Plus I love belonging to a group that is looked up to at school. If I quit this, I won't be able to rejoin or retry out for the rest of my high school years. Once you quit, you can't come back.

I have until Wednesday to decide because if I do end up quitting drill team, I have to give my coach a 2 day notice before the next football game. What do you guys think?

I'm usually an A student with an occasional B*** Well, just because you guys think I should pick one over the other doesn't mean that I will drop that one. I just want to know y'all opinion and what y'all would do..

I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but maybe you could talk your parents into letting you stay doing what your doing, but getting like a tutor or whatever to help you with your schoolwork. That way you won't have to choose between dance and drill team. Hope this helped.

I think you should talk to whoever is in charge at your studio (and your parents) about taking a break for a little while. Stop going to studio for a while to get your grades up and then go back.

I guess you have exhausted trying to keep on both? They won't give you another grading period to work on getting your grades up?

I figure you have already done it but mention it just in case begging will work!

If all else fails, I would have to vote for the studio. You have already invested 7 years of your life to it. I think it would be a shame to give that one up.

You won't lose any true friends you've made on the drill team.

I see know reason the others can't look up to you for being a studio dancer. It reaches far more people I would think.

That's just my opinion. Good luck with your decision. :)

Since you can dance at a studio anytime in your life when drill team is only in high school.. I think you should stick with drill. You can always come back to the studio after high school or when your grades are higher. Just my opinion =) Good luck !!

This sounds like a serious personal choice you have to make. Any answer that anyone says you might look down on and say the automatic other. Try thinking it through, looking at what may look better if you plan to go to college or what maybe easier for you to maintain with your school work and everyday schedule.
