Let me ask you all reading my post right now: What is it called when you take a piece of a living being to create another living being? 'Playing GOD' right? We all know it better as Cloning! So lets speculate that a higher life form manipulates the DNA of a primate by adding their own DNA, or "creating them in their own image". Then they take a piece of their creation, lets just say "a rib" for example and make another one just like it only the opposite gender, (so they can reproduce naturally). That's creation, and with creation comes a natural side effect, evolution. Evolution is adaptation to survive in your surroundings. Please do not comment on my question if you are going to tell me that this is absurd. I have read the bible many times and have been a Christian, a Catholic, a Protestant and a Mormon. I have studied many other religions and they all confirm that God created Adam in his own image, God took a rib from Adam to make Eve. Thousands of years of history prove that we are evolving with every generation. So what religion am I if I believe in creation and evolution?
Additional info, added Monday October 31 2005, 3:19 am: OK, there has been some confusion in my post that I am going to clear up right now. "I have studied many other religions and they all confirm that God created Adam in his own image, God took a rib from Adam to make Eve." Some other member has insisted that I am an idiot because I used the word 'confirm' lets change this word to 'believe'. It just means that I believe "a higher life form manipulated the DNA of a primate by adding their own DNA, or "creating them in their own image". Which is what happens in the bible. Only in the bible this being is called GOD. If you assume that I believe in GOD, then, yes, but that's the only part about him that I believe in, is that he manipulated genetics to create a new life. Sorry about the confusion, after all I am just another internet doofus!!
You're going through leaps and bounds to make evolution fit your religious outlook. You've basically lost all important understanding in doing so. [ exton's advice column | Ask exton A Question ]
BeautifulMadness answered Sunday October 30 2005, 3:23 pm: Hate to discredit the previous answer but you are not Wiccan if you believe in creation and evolution. You would have to believe in reincarnation, have an affinity with nature, etc etc etc, be drawn to magick...Wiccans do not believe in creation or evolution as such. There is no part of that religion which says 'believe in that', but nor does it say not to.
I suggest you look into several religions and see which one fits you best. You sound either agnostic (where you believe in some kind of higher power but you're not sure what it is) or a scientologist to me. You know, that thing that Tom Cruise is? Look into it.
Don't try and put a label on your religion straight away...it's enough to just believe :) [ BeautifulMadness's advice column | Ask BeautifulMadness A Question ]
Solemnstar answered Sunday October 30 2005, 12:48 pm: wicca belives in all life being of "the one" but to simpify it for the human mind its said to be a god and goddess
it focuses on nature and its power how all life needs other life to exist. and its good if you dont even want to use magick cause its not a neccacary part of the religion.cause its very open endend religion.i personally study magick more then use it. I believe as you do and I follow the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda. I’ll include his web site for you. His ministry is called The Self Realization Fellowship. Start off by reading, “Autobiography of a Yogi”. It is an amazing book. He includes Jesus Christ in his teachings. What most people don’t know is that Jesus spent some time in India before he started his teachings. Also check out David Ike. I include his web site at the bottom of this answer. He’s a conspiracy theorist. I don’t believe everything he writes, but he does make some excellent points on many different levels starting with government to spirituality. Read him with an open mind. You will know in your heart what is true and what is not. In the Bible you can find evidence for your theory. Remember, the people of those times didn’t know necessarily what they were seeing, so, they had to explain it the best way they knew how. Look in the book of Genesis; I can’t remember the exact section. My bible is packed, I moved recently. Anyway, in Genesis it talks about how fallen angels came from the sky and were so enamored with earth women. They took them as wives and had children. These children were giants. Now think about it, wouldn’t we be considered giants to most primates? The first bipedal primate was very short. Anyway, there are other sacred writings that didn’t make it into the bible, which explains this, further. It was also these angels who taught us how to wear makeup. Which is why some religions ban makeup. In the book of Enoch, he writes that these giants have spread throughout the earth, where in Genesis they said they killed them. Remember, the world was not able to communicate as we do today. Their world could have been a few hundred miles maybe a thousand. In Columbus’ day they thought it was flat. All the giants within their known world could have been killed. That doesn’t mean others couldn’t have escaped. Let me take a moment to explain a few things about the bible. The bible is mixed with a lot of fiction and fact. It is difficult to discern what is real. For example the story of Noah’s Arch. It has been proven by scholars that Noah was actually an ancient Sumerian King who was the inspiration for the great epic Gilgimesh as will as Noah. To set this up I have to explain something. In ancient Samaria if you did not pay your debts on time you were thrown in prison, even if you were a king. So, this king had a customer that he was to deliver animals, in pairs, and fruits and vegetables along with wine. He and his family were sitting on deck of his ship having a picnic when a sudden storm came up and swept them down the Euphrates River into the Persian Gulf. It flooded the land and all they could see was water everywhere ("water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink," the Gilgimesh epic). To them their world was flooded. They lived on the food they had on board and drank the wine as water because they had no fresh water. The water that surrounded them was salt water. Eventually a bird landed on the boat and they knew they were near land. Finally they got to land. The king knew he could never go back to his old kingdom because he was now passed his deadline (in those days they couldn’t be one day late no matter what the reason). He would be thrown in prison. So, they started a new kingdom (world). This would explain how his sons and daughters could marry other people outside of the family and where they came from. This could also answer the question of how Atom and Eve's children married outside the family. Anyway, two ancient Hebrew scribes were in Samaria and heard this flood story. They thought it would be a great story to teach a lesson by. They wrote the story of Noah. So, I guess what I’m saying is; the Bible is filled with parables and factual stories to teach a lesson. How do you tell the difference? The whole thing about getting to know God is truly getting to know yourself. Once you do that you will find God. You know in your heart what is true. Believe in yourself.
Dr_Chad answered Sunday October 30 2005, 9:29 am: I am not aware of any religion that endorses both biblical creationsim and biological evolution. Some Christians have acknowledged the wide-ranging evidence for evolutionary theory but refuse to discard Genesis, and therefore have pieced together a story of our origin they call Intelligent Design, which accepts the mechanisms at work in evolution but denies that complex structures in nature (the classic example is the eye) could have proceeded from simpler structures (a pre-eye). They believe God designed complex structures in nature and also designed the evolutionary mechanisms that cause differentiation in these structures (blue eyes versus green).
The whole notion of God creating the world with specific structures and laws and then setting it into motion to run its course originated in the 17th and 18th centuries during the Enlightenment. Those who subscribed to this interpretation of God's role in the world called themselves Deists. Several of America's founding fathers were Deists, most famously Thomas Jefferson. However, Deism is one slippery step away from agnosticism (the belief that we cannot know whether God exists or not), which in turn is a short skip and a jump from full-blown atheism. For this reason, no church or sect will ever make Deism a popular or common stance in Christianity: too many people might fall through the cracks.
Personally I believe you have to choose between the two. Any attempt to reconcile creationism and evolution, is an attempt to have it both ways; to, as they say, have your cake and eat it too.
