Independent variables can stand alone without being affected. A dependent variable depends upon something else. [Normally the independent variable.]

the independent variale does not change because it is not dependent on anything else. Time is the best ex. of this. Temperature is a good ex, too.

Well the independent and the dependent variables change. The independent changes something and the depenedent gets affected.

For example: The ammount of hours students study affects their test scores.

The independent would be the ammount of hours the student studies. & the test scores is the dependent because its getting changed by the independent.

I hope I helped. God bless. ♥

they both change, the independent variable is the one you change, or it goes from say -10 to 10 whereas the dependent variable is the one that changes in relation to the independent one, for example in the equation y=2x^2+5x=1 x is the independent variable and y is the dependent one
