What are ways of reducing anxiety? I'm a senior in high school so I've been pushing myself to do really well this year. I am also putting in 20+ hours a week at work which takes up alot of my time. I get stressed out over the littlest things that deal with school. Just over small assignments & tests. I want to do well but I can't seem to stop having this anxiety about everything. Besides medicine, what are ways to reduce my anxiety?

Set aside about 30 minutes form that hectic schuedule of yours and go get a book on meditation, some scented candles, and a nice comfy rug. This will seriously, seriously, seriously calm you down. ALso, try a nice scented bath maybe twice a week. I am also extremley stressed with school at the moment and I definetley know that feeling, and believe me, this works...oh and you could also add a little music, but not what you would typically listen to..I know this sounds dorky, but put on some nice classical music, or slow indian, it really gets you in the mood. Good luck hun. [ RockStoleMySoul's advice column | Ask RockStoleMySoul A Question ]

Take an hour every day for just "you" time. An hour or so isn't that much time out of even a busy schedule and usually it's so worth it. I was in a situation where I needed to do this and I found it so difficult. I just couldn't relax because I'd always get so restless knowing that there was always something constructive that I could be doing. What I did to solve this problem was I started running. Not jogging, no, actually running. It took a half hour if that, and saved me from severe depression and anxiety. Plus it gave me a way to clear my mind from all that pressure for awhile and it made me feel really good about myself because I was, physically, in the best shape of my life. Another thing that I did at one point was go outside and either read (casually!) or listen to music. My advice is to try a few things to find what works for you. People have different ways of dealing with anxiety. The running thing did wonders for me and I hope that you'll find something that works for you too. Good luck!
