Dictionary says:

"Stretch marks are a form of scarring generally associated with pregnancy, obesity, bodybuilding, and — to a lesser extent — puberty. They come about as skin is overstretched, disrupting the normal production of collagen. They first appear as reddish or purplish lines, but tend to gradually fade to a lighter color."

As far as getting rid of them, they never disappear; they lighten though. And yes, there are some products that promise to lessen the visibility of stretch marks. There is a product called Strivectin, HOWEVER, it is VERY expensive, we're talking $115.00+. You can find more information about that at:

Stretch marks are perfectly normal. Most teenage girls and some boys get them. Most pregnant women get stretch marks also. Stretch marks are caused by rapid growth or weight gain, as that of during puberty. In fact, that's probably the first time you'll notice stretch marks is when you hit puberty. Many girls get stretch marks along their breasts, hips, thighs, and butt. Many stretch marks will fade over time.

A stretch mark looks like a purplish line, perhaps it is jagged or crooked, that is indented or "shrunk." They come when the skin is stretched too rapidly by weight gain or growth.

I know girls (myself included) who got stretch marks in some form or fashion in the months after puberty. This is because of the hormonal changes that cause most girls to have a growth spurt, and most girls will gain weight around their hips and thighs.

There are some lotions or creams that say they get rid of stretch marks, but the best cure is time.

Stretch marks are literally marks on your skin due to quick growth. This can be caused from becoming pregnant, gaining a lot of weight in a short amount of time, or growing in a short amount of time. There are special lotions at any convienent store that help to sooth out the marks that run from $4-$7.

hope this helps- :)
