Not possible right? 8x-9=8x and 1/4x + 12= -1/4x Those two you can't solve for x right?

Well, the first one is impossible. The reasoning for this is you cannot subtract something from a number and have it still equal the same number. 5 minus 4 cannot equal 5 can it?
As for the second, x = -24. You end up moving the 1/4x to the other side, creating 12 = -1/2x. Then, you divide the -1/2 from both sides, making it -24 = x. ]
u are right you cant solve for x because you will get some werid number.

no it would come out -9=0 but the other one would equal 12= -1/2x then you multiply by 2 on both sides to get 24= -x ]
nope that other person is wrong.. the first one doesnt work but the second one goes like this :
1/4x+12=-1/4x
-1/4x -1/4x
+12= -1/2x
divide -1/2 by 12, then you get -6 = x ! =] XO ]
8x-9=8x you cant solve for but 1/4x+12= -1/4x you can solve! 1/4x+12= -1/4x equals -24 !! No um Prep I AM right...if you check the fricken answer 1/4 times -24 plus 12 equals 6 and -1/4 times -24 equals 6 therefore I am right...i'm not an idiot...we JUST went over this in school k? ]
