Halloween

Question Posted Friday September 30 2005, 5:33 pm

For Halloween I want to be a person from like the 1800's and I know what I'm going to wear but I want to know make-up to wear. Should I wear like nuetral, brown eyeliner, peach eyeshadow, pink blush? Thanks.

Well, in all honesty, make up really didn't exist much back then.

But, if you do choose to wear make up, make sure it is VERY natural.

No or very little eyemake up and very nude colored blushes and foundations. A very very sheer lip gloss, brownish or pinkish blush (NOT ALOT) and no eyeshadow.

Make up was most certainly not a big to-do back then. I say (for dramatic purposes), a nice 'rose' blush would probably be all you need. And if you think you'd like more than that, try a very very suttle pink lip stick. And as far as eye liner goes, I wouldn't. ;]

Go VERY natural. Try a very light pink blush with eye shadow that you can't even tell you're wearing (no sparkles, etc.) Wear a dusty pink nonglossy gloss on your lips that looks like it's been painted on and dried.

I think the best thing to do is research period-era costume of the 1800's. At that time, only the lower-class was tanned from working outside, so I'd opt for a very pale powdered look. The women of the era were limited in terms of a lot of cosmetics so I'd keep it simple overall. Also, it was considered culturally unacceptable to wear your hair down in public if you were of any aristocratic background. Again, research online and find a 'look' you are going for. Then you can buy cosmetics accordingly.

Have Fun!

Hey,
Wear really bright makeup. Bright blues, hot pink, lime green stuff like that. The 80's was all about the neon colors. Remember to have fun.

Good Luck,

P.S.Write back and tell me how my advice was and how it went.
