Anorexic?

Question Posted Wednesday August 24 2005, 10:18 pm

Lately I've found myself eating less and become more selfconcious. My boyfriend pokes my stomach a lot in a joking way and I'll think he's poking my stomach fat. My friend called me fat, but he was kidding, but I got very defensive over it. If I skip a meal, breakfast, lunch, or dinner I wont think anything of it. I'll lie sometimes to my mom and say that I did eat when I know I didn't. I'm always hungry, but I never want to go eat anything. Are these signs of anorexia?

Sadly, it's kidding around and ridicule that aids people in their eating disorder. I don't think you HAVE an eating disorder, but it could develop into one. Is their any reason why you're skipping meals, or is it just because you DON'T want to eat?

Don't be self-concious your great how you are. You need to eat regularly or your going to become tired (because you don't have enough calories) and then that will make you not want to do as many things and then people are going to assume you are boring including your boyfriend. SO in other words EAT REGULARLY! and do not skip meals.... your perfect the way you are... life is good you have a boyfriend and friends. Hope you listen.

well yes and no... but mostly your selfconciousness is getting to you. i've been doing almost the exact same thing lately. you need to eat at least a thousand calories a day to keep your body energized. and if you dont eat, you wont be energized so you wont be losing any weight. and your still growing. my advice is to eat a meal and then wait an hour or so and run around the block or something like that so you will lose the weight that your gaining when you do eat something. exercise is like almost the key to losing a few pounds. my brother has to loose weight for football and all he does is run wround everynight for 2 hours playing football. and so far hes lost 5 pounds in a week. your not fat and you are still growing, remember that, no matter what your boyfriend does or what your friend says. have confidence in yourself.

Sounds like typical teenage girl insecurity that's going a bit too far. Don't panic, you recognise what's going on so you're in a much stronger position than most girls who do this sort of thing- it means you can take control of it before it goes too far.

Explain to your boyfriend and friend that you don't feel that great about yourself right now and it would help if they stopped doing/saying what they are, even though you know they mean nothing by it. Getting the support of your friends should help you feel better and on this basis you can start to address your eating.

The best thing to do is find out what you should be eating for a balanced diet and perhaps start cooking yourself some healthy dishes. Hopefully this will make you feel more in control of your eating without depriving your body of what it needs to function.

Conccentrate on doing things that make you feel good about yourself and focus on what you like about yourself- generally give yourself a break and build up your self confidence.

Too many girls forget to please themselves in the process of trying to match up to what they think everyone else expects of them. Don't be one of them.

Smile, and go and eat your favourite food NOW. xx

Kind of. I think that if it goes to the point where you catch yourself lying about your eating habits... you're in trouble. You really shouldn't let people bring you down. If it bothers you when your boyfriend touches your tummie.. tell him plain and simple to 'knock if off'. I'm shore he will understand. If not, sounds like you're with the wrong man, Hun. Just make shore you eat no less than 3 GOOD SIZE meals per day, and you should be fine. If you honestly feel like you're in trouble with this, I think you should bring it up with a trusted adult. Anorexia Nervosa is not something to toy around with. It's a serious and fatal condition.

I'll include a link on some of the damage that can be done to the body as a result of malnutrition. Hopefully this will scare you straight:

yea I think that they are some signs. If ur friend did that to you and it offended you then I think that you should have told him and if you don't like that your boyfriend pokes your stomach then I think you should tell him that and hopefully he'll understand. Besides he went out w/ you because he liked the way you were. Maybe to try to help u shouldnt lie to your Mom because that won't make you feel better. if you miss a meal( but you really shouldn't) then if your selfconcious you should have like a healthy snack like fruit or something like that. or have more at a different meal.

hope it helps :)

They could be signs of anorexia because you have a eating disorder in which you choose not to eat when you're hungry as well. But did you lose weight from doing that? You should stop this because it could have a lot of serious consequences like dry brittle bones and nails. Also loss of menstrual period, digestive problems, you bruise easilyand could affect you emotionally as well like cause depression as well as guilt. So whatever they say don't listen but if you just want to lose weight do it the right way by following a good diet which will not make you starve.Use diets I have in my advice column to help you if that is what you want to do.
