MummuM answered Friday August 19 2005, 8:31 pm: :(, Low Quality - Not a great question. Either really long or really short, with spelling errors, it's been asked 50,000 times already and the person probably could have used any search engine to find the answer. :|, Medium Quality - Okay, but shouldn't be a featured question because it's not really that good or it contains sexual references (the main page must be kept PG-rated, if you know what I mean). :), High Quality - Somewhat decent question that people will like answering. Most of the words are spelled right and we can show it on the main page without being embarrassed. You can go to this website for more information: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

FunnyCide answered Friday August 19 2005, 7:10 pm: The "happy face" [ :) ] is a 3. This is for super awesome amazing grand questions. If it has really good spelling, and good grammar, is written well and isn't confusing, is generally a rare question (not frequently asked), it will get a 3 usually.
The "straight face" [ :| ] is a 2. This is for questions that are kindof normal, not super awesome, but not awful. They may contain a small bit of chatspeak (poor grammar/spelling) and might be confusing. The topic of the question might be common, but the question is generally unique.
The "sad face" [ :( ] is a 1. This is for questions that are super awful asked wayy too often, "just stinking google it" kind of questions. These questions are asked by really dumb or really lazy people generally. They're overasked, and have a VERY simple answer.
mystical_breeze answered Friday August 19 2005, 7:05 pm: I actually don't know the exact way to explain it, so just click on the circle next to people's questions and it'll explain it.
I THINK THIS IS THE WAY IT GOES:
Blank circle:
It doesn't have enough answers to rate.
Happy face:
It was a good question and you spelled things correctly and used paragraphs, etc.
Sad face:
You didn't really care about your spelling and it was a question that someone has already asked before. [ mystical_breeze's advice column | Ask mystical_breeze A Question ]
ViTaChaN answered Friday August 19 2005, 7:02 pm: Emm.. the very left one, like the sad face thing, that means the question is really bad, or the question is so stupid. The middle one means the question is okay. The very right one means it's a very good question. Hope I helped!
Dakmor answered Friday August 19 2005, 7:02 pm: Please. Read the mod FAQ. Or don't be a mod. Or just take a wild guess. Smilie means good question. Frownies mean bad question. In the middle is the =| face. [ Dakmor's advice column | Ask Dakmor A Question ]
