TheOldOne answered Friday August 19 2005, 10:42 am: Coughing temporarily increases internal body pressure. It helps the doctor tell if you have an inguinal hernia. You don't have to cough when the doctor is checking your prostate; that's a rectal exam, which is quite different.
Fortunately you shouldn't have to worry about that until you turn 40 or so. And to be honest, it's not really painful.
