Question Posted Wednesday August 10 2005, 3:58 pm

16/f. Does anyone have any advice for a girl joining the Navy? When I turn 17, I want to join and just be a DEP until I graduate. What was bootcamp like, etc? Thank you.

My best friend just went into boot camp for the Army and we get calls a lot and tons of letters, he really likes it. But you have to be committed. I know that he doesnt get a lot of sleep and ive heard that the Navy is even worse. I think its awesome that you are willing to fight for our country. I've always wanted to but i have athsma. So my advice is that ive heard its rough and you have to be committed, but in the end it pays off. =)

I want to be in the army and ill tell you that the navy means to be prepared to take in whatever they ask you. you will have about 2-4 hours of sleep a night. (My dad was a general in the army so i tell you from his experience) You work very hard, and you have to train ALOT. Bootcamp is actually fun for me cause it gives your body a real challenge. It's a great feeling as soon as you acomplished something. Even though they are strict and have lots of rules, i thin you might make a good person..

Just be prepared for hard work and little sleep. There's a lot of information on boot camp at the link below. It gives you information on what to expect each week of training, courses you'll take, etc. Good luck.

Bootcamp is utter hell, but if you think you can just grin and bear it, Go for it. Just be sure you're ready to commit to that, because you will cause suffering to your comrades and possibly be dishonorably discharged from the navy, so think this out before hand.
