"Sterotypes"

Question Posted Friday August 5 2005, 10:50 pm

This is prolly gonna sound dumb but im not into all those sterotype things. So like what does prep/goth/punk/emo/posers and all those things mean. Add them if i forgot some. Those are the basics that i know.
Like if you were pink and say "omg" and "like" every 5th word...your a prep?

that doesnt make sense to me...

Here is a basic review of the stereo types:

Prep...Preppy people are just like girly girls. They always have to look good, love boys, and always dress their best.

Goth...Goths are just depressed people that like different things than other stereotypes. They love to wear black and like to listen to music that they can relate to.

Punk...Punks are just skaters that think they are cool and like to wear baggy pants that show there boxers and that kind of thing.

Emo...Emos are just more emotional than other stereotypes.

Posers...Posers are just people that want to fit in with other social groups that they think are cool.

Hope i helped you out!

Thanks,
Jenna

It doesn't make sense to me either, but a lot of people follow stereotypes and labels religiously. I never understood it -- I wear what I want and act how I want to act. Whatever.
♥ Hope I helped.

I agree with you on that. I wish none of us had labels but its just how most people will be. Its just who we are and the clothes we wear. Im gonna try to explaint his the best way I can but I dont think they mean anything or that they are labels.

Prep- It isnt just the way you talk and if you wear pink its just another word for some stuck up people. People who wear girly/preppy clothes. Like Hollister...

Goth-Its just people who like to dress in black. People stereotype them all the time! They think that they're some scary freaks which isnt true. They are acually very caring && nice. Sometimes they are depressed but thats not their fault.

Punk-I guess you can say its kind of close to the gothic style.. I`m not so sure about it && I dont like labeling people punks or anything. Its just a taste in music.

Emo- Emo people are the emotional type.. Thats what it means but people also call them that if they see some guys wearing girl pants or something witch is ridicoulous!

Posers- They're just the type of people who try to fit into one of those "labels". They are'nt being themselves and they are mostly doing it for attention.

Personally thats all I know though. I still dont like to sterotype people or label them but then again a lot of people will and still do. All of this labeling basiclly has to do with the clothes we wear and who we hang out with.

If you're saying you hate labels, why are you asking people what they mean? You missed the whole Concept of labels. Labels were obviously created by someone who couldn't Handle Diversity. Don't let anyone tell you what you are, because people tell me ALL the time that I am a goth because I wear black clothes, black eyeliner, and listen to Rock. Yet most people don't know, that the word "Goth" dates back to a group of warroirs called "the Goths." They dressed in black and had pale skin, so thats where the stereotype came from. Yeah, I don't get it either, but I refused to be labeled as something just because I'm different than everyone else at my school.

This is how it's like at my school

Prep: The people who have cash and nice clothes. The typical popular group. Ever see a group of people in a crowd (usually in a circle, and almost ALL of them are white)? Prep!

Goth: People who wear a lot of black, and a lot of dark makeup. Peircings, colored/spiked hair.

Emo: They also wear dark colors, usually have long hair over their face. Emotional, hence the name "emo"

Posers: People who wear skate clothes but don't skate

Skaters: They usually belong to the Preps as well. They skate and wear skate clothes

Ballers: The BLACK people with cash and wear nice clothes and have bling.

Playas: Those who can get with girls immedietly, one after another. They are smooth with the ladies and can spit some serious game.

Punk: Cross between skater, goth, emo, and sometimes prep.

Wanderers: This is what I am. I, not nessessarily, don't belong and belong at the same time. Friends with everyone or no one. You either know them or don't know them.

Hope this helps. It might not be accurate with others, but this is how its like at my school.

i'm basing my answers on my experience from school. you pretty much have the prep thing right but i don't think they're all that drastic. i think there is two levels for preps. i am considered a lower level prep by the higher level preps. you're pretty much based on what you wear. i wear a lot of Aeropostale so i'm a lower level prep and if you wear Abercrombie you're a higher level prep. i know it's very confusing and stupid. Goths are kinda obsesed with black and usually have a lot of peircings/tatoos. Punks are the type of people who wear just funks clothes with a lot of pink and black and those other neon colors. i don't know what a emo is and i've never heard of them. posers are people who try to act like one of these stereotypes but they're not really like that normally.

hope this confusing info was helpful i live in a world of stereotypes

Here's a couple more...

Jocks- The sports players that everyone "wants" to be like.

Ballers- The people that play basketball, get the girls...somewhat similar to the jocks, but a lil different

♥ I totally agree with you!! I think being labled is way retarted. Being prep is wearing like abercrombie, hollister, american eagle. stuff like that. Goths wer black & they're sad & stuff, emo is where the guys wear really tight pants & sometimes eyeliner & converse & their har is like long on one side. punk..I dunno hard to explain =/. posers are people that try to aact a different way but they arent that way..way way hard to explain. For example if some guy came to school dressed all skater & stuff but could skate..they would be a poser. I H0PE I S0RTA HELPED ! D0NT G0 BY LABELS ! BE Y0URSLEF ! ITS ALL GAY!! XOXO Lauren

MummuM answered Friday August 5 2005, 11:14 pm:
Prep is like, you wear the preppy clothes; all the name brand ones, you hangout with all the football players and the "cool" and "popular" people. Goth, you pretty much dress in all black and have your own way at looking at life. Punk, you wear all the spikes, with all the earrings, bagging clothes, make-up, eye liner, etc. Emo, mostly always listen to depressing music and such. I really don't know how to explain that, sorry. Posers, they usually act like someone they aren't. Kind of like wiggers who act black, but they're white. Posers can act like they're preps, or are punk, when really they aren't. Stereotypes don't make any sense to me either, it's really stupid, plain and simple. People should act and dress the way they want to. Not just so they can be labeled as something.
