hair dye

Question Posted Sunday July 31 2005, 3:33 pm

hey..
I have kind of a darker brunette color and im looking to dye my hair blonde. i want like a golden blonde.. or like britney spears in her my perogative video. the problem is that my mom said if i go to a pro to do it i have to pay for it myslef. and i really had my heart set on getting some new things for school. So if anyone knows any good brands of "do it yourself" dyes that actually work to dye brunette hair blonde.. id really appreciate it. and please dont say im stupid for wanting to dye my hair blonde.. caz im sick of the same old same old.. and i really need this. So please please give me some good brands that will work! thanks in advance.

Here's my suggestion to you: START WITH HIGHLIGHTS. If they turn out bad, they're a lot easier to fix. The box CAN be wrong, and you never really know how it will turn out because everybody's hair is different. DEFINITELY try the strand test [the box tells you how] It will probably take a long time, but it is DEFINITELY worth it. If you like the color of your highlights, get that same color in a dye. Don't do permanent at first though, because you might not like the color. Remember, if you DO highlight first, it will be DRASTICALLY different than just highlights, so you might take that into consideration. Hopefully it works out!

been there done that.. i always use the herbal essences but my mom always does it! i don't think it would be that hard to do yourself, but it takes time. if you DO end up doing it yourself, be sure that when you pull your hair through the cap thing, that you pull the hair all the way through-because it's very important to get your roots! also on top of that, i use sheer blonde-honey to carmel shampoo- highlight enhancer and just the moisturizing conditioner that comes with it. that stuff is the best! and it smells good, and makes your hair look really healthy! i really hope i helped. if you need anything else, just leave one in my inbox!

Going too light from a darker color is hard to do without first bleaching your hair. I prefer Revlon Colorsilk since it leaves my hair soft and healthy looking. It's pretty inexpensive. I pay about $3 at Walmart for a box. Golden blonde is #71 but I would check the box just to be sure that's the color your hair will go. Usually on the side or back of the box, there's a little color chart showing your original color and what color the dye will turn your hair. Make sure when you buy the dye to also buy a shampoo for color-treated hair so it stays healthy and keeps the color longer.

awww.. well truth be told.. doing it yourself won't really work. been there, done that. if you have dark brown hair/black and try to dye it blonde by yourself, most likely it will turn reddish/orange.. that is unless you somehow manage to bleach your hair and THEN dye it blonde, which i really wouldn't recommend because you could really screw up your hair.. but maybe someone else will do it for you? good luck! :)
