Okay, first of all you NEED to get some NICKEL FREE toe rings. If you're allergic to the nickel in the toe rings it WILL turn your toes green. [I'm allergic to any jewelry with nickel in it, and that's what any jewelry will do.] Before you spend a lot of money getting them, try some nickel free ones, or sterling silver. Claire's normally has really cute toe rings that are nickel free.

What is a fake toe ring?

No but really, the thing that determines whether or not a ring will stain your skin is the metal composition. A "gold" ring, for example, is not really gold; it's an alloy of mostly gold, with copper, nickel, and silver. The karat number is what tells you just how gold a "gold" ring is; the more karats, the more gold (and less of the other metals), and so the less staining that will occur.

No ring made of precious metal can be worn with absolute certainty of no staining occuring. A ring made of stainless steel will never stain you...but then, who wants jewely made of stainless steel? Metals to avoid are nickel, definnitely copper (almost certain to stain), and sterling silver, which stains black, not green.

There is one way that I would recommend to stop a ring of any metal composition from staining: coat the inside of the ring with a single layer of transparent nail polish. This will prevent the metal from directly touching your skin, thus no staining will occur.

Getting a ring that is real gold will keep from turning your toe green.
