My advice is just to try and eat as healthy as possible and excercise. You don't have to do uniform exercises. Play your favorite sport every day!! You'll have fun and be excercising at the same time!!! Hope I helped!

If a doctor said you're overweight, ask them what you can do about it. And guess what!? Your 13! You're growing still. Settle down, you're fine. Just eat correctly and exercise, but DON'T over do it!

Yeah, just like watch what you eat, and try to not eat any things with lots of sugar. And you could also try a little bit of excercise. Good Luck!

at 13, most diets won't work for you because yo're still growing [especially south beach diet]. you need a balanced diet. for snacks eat fruits or vegetables. back off the chocolate and sweets. easy way to do that is to tell your parents not to buy them at them grocery store, so when you really want sweets, there's nothing for you to eat. secondly, you should exercise. the easiest things are walking, jogging, bicycling, crunches, and push-ups. stay active and back off the sweets. trust me it works.

Mackenzie answered Friday July 29 2005, 11:30 am:
So the first person [xxxjill] copied some of my answer word for word, but here is what I REALLY have to say:

We'll staRt out with the obvious: exeRcises. A few good activities that can simply assist in poRpoRtioning the body in it's ENTIRTY would be anything that gets the blood ciRculation goin', such as jogging, jumping jacks, jumping Rope, and walking, and bicycle walking. Also, 'tis the season of wateR aeRobics, and they will woRk like a CHARM!!

And if you'd like to taRget youR tummie specifically, tRy doing a couple hundRed sit ups oR cRunches. I know, I know, I know.. 'a couple hundRed' is A LOT, but if you bReak it up into sessions, it's not that difficult, tRust me. I'm the Queen of lazy fuckeRs, so if I can do this, YOU can do this! :P

And to tone youR ass and thighs, do leg lifts. To do these, stand up stRaight, and slowly move youR leg -ONLY YOUR LEG- backwaRds. Like, say you'Re going to kick something, but kick BARKWARDS, and DON'T BEND YOUR KNEES!! Make sense???

To tone youR arms, take two dum bells [whicheveR weight woRks foR you.. even if 3 pounds]. Put one in each aRm, and stand up stRaight with youR feet shouldeR-width apaRt. BRing the dum bells up to youR chest with youR elbows folded out [like TaRzan pounding his chest-soRt of motion, ya know?] Then at a MEDIUM speed... extend youR aRms out to the side, and slowly bRing them back in. You can do two at a time to help balance the stRength build up and toning, oR do one at a time if it's easieR. THIS DOES CUH-RRRRAZZIIEEEEEEE AMOUNTS OF MIRCALE!!!!!!!!!! If you do it foR at least 20 minutes a day you'll see a GIGANTIC diffeRence in a week TOPS. I do them all the time; it's fun!!

Also, pRoviding you cut out the EXTREMELY unhealthy foods, such as WHITE bRead [substitute it with wheat], cake pRoducts, ice cReam, hambuRgeRs, and soda... [if you'Re used to consuming A LOT of it] you can see a MAJOR diffeRence the fiRst two weeks, ALONE. My fRiend did it.. and we weRe both shocked to all hell!

You can find lists of healthy foods at:

-- [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
-- [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
-- [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

As you pRobably alReady know, it's best to eat SEVERAL SMALL poRtions a day. Say, have an apple and a piece of cheese, two houRs lateR have a few cRakeRs, and an houR lateR have one piece of wheat toast, and so on and so foRth, ya know??? Little intakes of food like that givs youR body time to digest it pRopeRly. You see how that's betteR than eating one oR two huge meals a day... because it takes too long to catch up, and it can not buRn the caloRies quick enough, and then just quits, adding body fat.

But of couRse weight loss takes time.... you just have to stay committed, and have the dRive to keep it up. TRy to keep youRself busy... and sleep as often as possible... these things keep youR mind busy and off food. I can't Really say how long it will take; I suppose that diffeRs fRom peRson to peRson. It Really just depends on how much weight you'Re looking to shed. I'd say you could lose 10 to 20 pounds in a month; that's veRy possible.

Goodluck to you though!! Hopefully I've been of some assistance heRe!!

watch your calories. have self control. tell yourself when you can have calories and when you can't. cut down on junk and try and eat healthy most of the time. create a work out schedule too. go on walks every day at a certain time. or swim some laps. im on the swim team and off season i gain weight but once i get back in the pool i lose that weight. try something that works around your schedule and isnt to hard for you.

TheOldOne answered Friday July 29 2005, 10:19 am:
You may not really be 20 lbs. overweight. Charts can be a helpful guide, but they only show averages - they can't take your bone structure into account, for example. So this may not be accurate, but according to a chart I just checked at ( [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) ), your "normal" weight range is 93 to 137 pounds. I'll bet you're within that range, but if you're not, don't panic.

To diet at this age is probably not a good idea. Right now your body and brain are still growing and developing at a rapid rate, and if you cut back too much on food, you could cause long-term harm. Instead, try to eat a more healthy diet. Replace soft drinks with water; a slice of lemon in icewater is really refreshing. Eat more vegetables, as many different kinds as you can, and fruits. Get exercise - cardiovascular exercise such as walking, biking, swimming, or running is best, although there are great cardiovascular machines at most gyms. Some weight lifting will help you to tone and shape your body, and that's fine too, as long as you don't go overboard.

If you're absolutely DETERMINED to diet, talk to your doctor first. She or he can tell you how to do it safely.

Most of all, relax. Get plenty of sleep and try not to worry about things too much. You're going to be fine.
