You usually go once a year if you're sexually active or when you turn 18 years old.

When you become sexually active or after you turn the age of eighteen, that's when you should start visiting a gynecologist.

ncblondie answered Wednesday July 20 2005, 10:11 am:
Once you get your first period, you should start going to the gynecologist. If you're sexually active, you should definitely go to the gynecologist once a year. They'll check for any abnormalities as well as do a pap smear to screen for cervical cancer.

x_mystery answered Wednesday July 20 2005, 10:10 am:
Either when you become sexually active, or when you turn 18, whatever comes first, as a general guideline. The only other time you would go before one of those things happens is if you think there is a problem. Hope I helped!

Mackenzie answered Wednesday July 20 2005, 10:00 am:
Some doctors recommend a visit to the Gynecologist once a year after the patient begins engaging in sexual intercourse, OR by the age of 18, whichever happens to come first. However, OTHER doctors say that after you get your VERY FIRST cycle, you should THEN start going for annual check ups. During this exam they will check you for cancer and STD's [should you happen to have one], so I think it's best to commence visitation RIGHT after your first period. Better safe than sorrie......
