Ok. I'm going on vacation to Brazil in less than a week and I'm gonna pierce my belly button there. I heard that salt water is good for the piercing. But I also heard that it's not good to go swimming ANYWHERE b/c it might get infected. I need to know if I could go swimming in the ocean while I'm Brazil (since the ocean is salt water you know)? Please answer! So important for me to know. I'll rate good!

PinkLady4863 answered Saturday July 16 2005, 11:25 pm: do not go swimming, although the ocean is salt water it is not the same salt water you have ayt home. it has much bacteria and living organisms that you can't even see, it will get infected and it will hurt badly. my advice, get it pierced after vacation, you can waitrather then have a rash and infection all vacation can't you?

fall_to_pieces answered Saturday July 16 2005, 11:18 pm: well, personally i wouldn't get my belly button pierced down there, but i guess that is up to you.
i think that it is ok that you go swimming in the ocean, but always have some kind of "germ killing" substance with you while you are down there, like neosporin. it is always better to be safe than sorry.
hope i helped. [ fall_to_pieces's advice column | Ask fall_to_pieces A Question ]

IPIiINIkI_my_anti_drug answered Saturday July 16 2005, 7:59 pm: Salt water is good for your piercing.. but like another said, you should wait untill the last day, or 2. One of my friends got hers done at venice beach and went in the water after.. not a good idea. But it might have been because of the water polution.. brazils water is cleaner, but you should be careful that sand or dirt wont get in it because then it will get infected. Better be safe then sorry..
