Hey. Field Hockey is an awesome sport! I figure skate and play field hockey. Ok, so back to your question. A good way to get in shape is to run. In field hockey a lot of running is involved (depending on which position you play it will vary). Building up your stamina is very important so you dont get out of breath and tired. Pilates is a good way to tone your whole body and build some muscle. Start of with that, and eventually if you want to build more muscle I reccommend the book Toning For Teens by: Joyce L. Vedral. Its a great book with a 20 minute workout program to tone your body. Another thing that is key to be healthy is to drink water (it will help flatten your stomach!) and eat healthy, and in moderation. Dont starve yourself, but dont eat McDonalds every day. Good Luck and have a great field hockey season!! Let me know if you need anything else. As an avid figure skater i've pretty much gone trough the whole "getting in shape" thing =)! -- Isabel ]
i say that a simple workout once everyday, running of something, and a healthy balanced diet, can possibly get you in the best shape.. if you wanna work better at Field Hockey, every other day, go out to a field and just practice all the skills and moves.. try doing a one on one with your friend. So basicly all you need is:
1) A Healthy Diet
2) Exercise
3) Practice
and you`ll be better in no time!
hope this helps!

Swimming is a great way to tone up.
Do 50 pushups and 50 situps each day and eat healthily ((ex: only have dessert every other day))
If you want to have fun,put on your favorite CD or turn to your favorite radio station and just start dancing...try that everyday.
Walking is one of the most underestimated fat burning excerises,by the way.

Well I would suggest maybe signing up to a gym ; put if you don't wanna spend money then just work out at home ; run laps around your neighborhood...do crunches and sit ups and maybe buy weights and stuff.. swimming laps would help too. And if you have any other friends that do field hockey then you should practice with them so you can work on your moves and still kinda work out at the same time. Hope I helped!!

running will probly help cuz it strenghthens your legs. ~Kerri~ ]
I've played field hockey for 4 years now. I also go to a school that has 3 state championships in the sport, so we are a bit hardcore about it. I would just run. Run sprints, and run distance. Also, work on your stick skills. Speed dribbling, left to right stick skills, and such. You might want to try going to a gym and lifting as well. don't forget about the plyo's either.. ]
Swimming is great to get in shape but so is running, rollar blading,or even riding your bike what ever works for you ]

field hockey involves a lot of running so good endurance and leg strength is important..start to walk ...jog..and sprint more. it will prepare you well for field hockey. swimming is good to help with any sport..it builds muscle. just practice practice practice as well running, sprinting, etc. ]
