i really don't know what to do

Question Posted Saturday June 25 2005, 3:48 pm

ok..so i've been running track/cross country since i was 7. (i'm 16 now) and i also used to swim year round when i was 11-14 but i ended up quitting to focus more on running. but lately i have just gotten SO sick of running. its just like it lost something, ya know? it seems like i only do it because i have to and i dont really enjoy it like i used to. i also really miss swimming like a lot i loved it and i kinda want to keep swimming, but i know since i haven't swam in so long i wouldn't be very good. and i seriously don't know how to tell my parents i want to stop running thats like unheard of and all of my best friends are on track. i still have 2 more years of high school and i dont want to spend them doing something i dont enjoy, but i do want the letter in that sport to put on college applications. so i really dont know what to do! should i just keep running and stick it out until the end of high school? or start swimming again? (i can't do both) sorry its so long!

okay. its two more years...it will be great on your college applications. You must be very good at this sport, stick to it-dont go back to swimming..stick it out. Believe in yourself, you can do it. You might not have passion for it anymore, but think of your future..all this work for 9 years for nothing if you quit. think of your future! good luck :)

do what youu think is right. just ask yourself what would make you a beter person?if you want to swim then swim. if you do swim that don't mean you wont be with your friends, and if they rely are your friends they wont care what sport u do just as long you send some time together.

Well my suggestion is.. can't you get this "letter" thing that you were gonna put for running on your college application for swimming? Because wouldn't that be good? Saying you ran track AND swimming? And if you're not enjoying it, then I really wouldn't do it.. because you should do something you love..and even though you might not be GREAT at swimming, I'm sure you'll do good. And you can always go to the public pools and do laps and maybe go to the school pools and there'll be practices and stuff so you can work on your swimming..and about your friends..if they're you're best friends, then you'll see them in classes, hallway, and have them over you're house and stuff so it's not like you'll lose touch. So I'd join swimming because it seems like having two sports would be good on a college application.. hope I helped!

may i ask why you can't do both?
but if track has lost its special thing for you, then why keep doing it?
i think that you should go for the swimming team. i know that since you haven't swam in a while that it will be hard to get back into the swing of things, but that is what the practices are for. you will get better faster depending on how hard you work for it.
as for the parentals...talk to them. ask them what they think of you doing swimming instead of track. and if they are the kind of parents that don't want you to quit, then do both swimming and track. swimming and track aren't in the same season so you can train for swimming and then go for running in the spring. plus swimming will keep you in shape for the track season.
i hope i helped, and that you get to do what you like.

Start swimming again. Your parents might be mad you quit but that is better than the alternative. Even if you aren't very good anymore (which I doubt since you are still involved in athletics) at least you would be happier.
If you are that concerened about getting into college, start volunteering places and joining clubs.

You shouldnt be doing something you dont enjoy anymore. If you dont like it dont.. If I were you I would rather do swimming agian. I mean you really love it and you have been doing running since you were younger. If you feel like you wont be good enough for swimming keep practicing and you will defenetlly get used to it again. When you apply for collages you could put you did running and swimming. Good luck.. ♥// ex_oh
