Charging guests for camping party

Question Posted Tuesday June 21 2005, 8:30 am

I'm having a camping party by the sea for my 18th birthday in July but the only campsite available is quite expensive.

The charge is £5 per head for camping and I want to invite 20+ people. My total budget for the party is £100. I'm providing food and drinks, and even tents for some people. Do you think it would be reasonable to ask my friends to help out with their camping fee and if so how much should I ask them for? I thought about asking for at least £2.50 each otherwise I'll have to severely limit the number of people.

Thanks.

Please note guys that I'm in Britain and my budget is 100 pounds not 100 dollars. It's almost twice as much as you seem to think. I think my parents are being quite generous..

For anything like this, asking for less that five pounds per person is acceptable...two-fifty is the perfect amount.

Asking your friends to chip in is quite acceptable. Asking them to pay for their entire fee is also acceptable in this situation. If anyone simply doesn't have the money, you can ask that they bring food instead. Or everyone could bring food and stuff instead of money.

Hmm... so if 100 pounds in BRitian is twice as much as 100 dollaRs in AmeRica...

that would make youR 5 pounds ouR ten dollaRs, yes??

If that's all coRRect and dandy, I don't see anything wRong with asking them to simply pay theiR cost foR theiR own head count if it would help betteR youR paRty, ya know??? YouR 18th biRthday only comes aRound once....

Hope.. this.. helps?? :D

Hey! Of course, that is VERY reasonable to have them do this for you... especially your eighteenth birthday! (Happy bday by the way =]) I just had my party, and I had my friends pay for some of their own way too, and they were perfectly FINE with it! Your friends won't care, and if you feel guilty or anything, you could just ask them to like.... deduct a little from your present or whatever! $2.50 should be fine for everyone, and some may even give you $3 just because they don't want to have to deal with change. I hope you have a great bday.... having a budget really stinks, but I'm sure you'll have a great time!!

It is rude to invite guests to a party they have to pay for. It would be much nicer if you would just limit the number of people. Besides, if everyone doesn't show up or forgets their money, you are stuck with something you can't pay for.

I think that would help out a lot! They are your friends and they wont mind helping you out at all. I mean just explain to them that it is kind of pricy and if they could give you about $2.50-$5.00 ! so yea defenetlly do it. Have fun tho! ♥// ex_oh
