Period question

Question Posted Wednesday June 8 2005, 4:26 pm

15/F
Okay, I have a problem.

I have a dance performance on the 17 and 18 of June, I normally get my period on the 15th. I have researched tampons and the pros and cons but the problem is they(tampax.com) say that when you start to wear tampons you should just wear the ones for lighter days. That sucks because my period is normally really heavy and the preformance is from 5:30 to about 12:00 both nights. There is only one bathroom and its normally filled during recital nights. I have my dressing room with about 60 other girls and there is no possible way I could wear pads with my costumes, one I have too many white outfits and two I move around too much on stage. I can't have the pad go flinging out. That would be disgusting.

So the question is, is it okay to try wearing tampons for heavier flo on my first time?
Yes, I have tried tampons before and it always feels uncomfortable because i'm not use to having string stick out of my vagina but I would go with the discomfort for my dance.

i would recomend pearl tampons. I find them very comfortable. But you will have to get used to the string, because if you can't then you will have to wear a pad which obviously will stick out under your outfits.

Hope i helped you and good luck

okay tampons are not bad at all. if your period is heavy try Tampax PEARL and get super or super plus if its really heavy (pearls are comfortable and they are good for people who are not use to having a tampon up there) and if you can with the tampon wear a panty liner and i dont' know if your wearing a thong with the costumes but they make panty liners for thongs too and those are for the just in case. and insert the tampon before you leave for the recital but long enough for you to know if it's comfortable or not. if its not take it out which might hurt if its not used and try again.. it sounds weird but it takes practice. you could wear your tampon for the whole recital but the 61/2 hours is really pushing the limit. if you can after 4 hours try to change it tell the poeple in the line its an emergency and if they don't want blood flowing everywhere they would get out of your way! lol oh and check before you go on stage (exspecially with the white costumes) if you leaked or not you don't want everyone to know its the time of the month
hope i helped if you have any questions just leave me one

Well, about tampons being uncomfortable:

Are you sure you're putting it in as far as you go when you do use them? Tampons can be kind of hard to get used to at first, but once you've gotten used to the initial wierdness, they're really handy.

There's no reason only to use the tampons for lighter days if your period is normally very heavy. If relaxed enough, and with a couple of tries (if that) - you'll be fine. I believe it's mor of a reccomendation to suggest a smaller size first, which you can try to get the hang of it with.

5:30- 12:00 is about six hours, which is the maximum most say one should wear a tampon. It's unlikely, but possible that you may get TSS if it is in longer than that by too much, but I'd say that it isn't as much of a risk or problem unless it exceeds that by more than a few hours, although by then you probably need to change it anyway.

Now, is there a way that you can wear an extra pair of underwear(so it doesn't fly out of your costume as you said a pad might) with a pad? Even if you wear a tampon, an extra pair of underwear, a pantyliner or a pad would be helpful if your period is so heavy that it leaks through the tampon (and with a white costume, that could be disasterous).

Hey! Tampons aren't supposed to hurt or feel uncomfortable, unless you have it in wrong. Maybe try a couple of times to get used to it and then put it in right. Also, because you said that you flow is pretty heavy, maybe try a regular or super tampon because they absorb more.

Good Luck
I hope this helps

Yeah... the first time I used tampons I had a cheerleading competition... my period was heavy- and I didnt' care. I couldn't wear a pad! I say go for it, if this is the only possible way. Good luck at your dance performance... I hope that I helped you... Sahara

ok if they're uncomfortable then your not using them right..when i wear one i cant feel it at all!! but anyways i dont think it matters about your flow since you said that you've worn one and all..so just wear a tampon at your shows and good luck performing!!!
