okay im a 14/f with braces. i get them off june 30th. and i was wondering how they take them off. bcuz i have a sensitive mouth i was wondering if i should take pain killers before and all of that stuff.
shortyskatrtoo answered Sunday June 5 2005, 3:48 pm: I got my braces off yesterday. All they do is take this thing and you can hear a popping noise then they just scrap the cement off your teeth. your teeth will feel slick and weird. i hope i helped. you wont need any meds.

Then, they use these pilers to take everything like the brackets etc. After that they get the glue off and polish your teeth. I don't think you should take pain killers. But, if your mouth is really that sensitive then you can talk to your orthodontist before the process of getting your braces removed. ♥ Peachgirly [ Peachgirly's advice column | Ask Peachgirly A Question ]
OrangeChikn answered Sunday June 5 2005, 12:32 pm: It kind of hurts a little, but not too too bad. They sort of pop the brackets off and it makes a weird noise, but only like 2 of teeth actually hurt after it. So, maybe you should take something, if your mouth is that sensitive.

XxSwEeTtArTxX answered Sunday June 5 2005, 12:09 pm: it doesn't really hurt so much that you'll need pain killers, but if you really wanna, i guess you could just to be safe. the only things that might hurt would be pulling off the brackets with plyer looking things and then getting off the remaining glue. and that doesn't even hurt so bad. but if your really worried about it hurting, then take some light pain killers just to help.
Karen answered Sunday June 5 2005, 11:37 am: The whole process of getting your braces taken off is simple, in my opinion. When I got my braces taken off about 2 1/2 years ago, my orthodontist took out both of the wires, took some plyers (I'm not good with the names of tools) and pulled off all the brackets. Then he took out the four rings and polished my teeth to remove the remaining amount of glue. That's basically how your orthodontist will remove your braces. I've probably left out a few things, since I can't remember what exactly happened 2 1/2 years ago. After that, your orthodontist will talk to you about your retainer that you will have to wear for the next year. If you want, you can take a pain killer before but I didn't experience any pain, except when my orthodontist polished my teeth. [ Karen's advice column | Ask Karen A Question ]
