Well I'm not sure if you don't want AE and Abercrombie because they're expensive or because their clothes are toned down in the color department, so I'll put both fashion stores and regular department stores that carry good fashion-
Forever 21- www.forever21.com
This is a great store because it has a lot of unique, bohemian-look clothes that are colorful and pretty. They have a lot of vivid colors that look really nice.
My two favorite department stores are Sears and Kohls. Sears has a great juniors section, and they have a lot of nice, in fashion clothes at a cheaper price. They also have some nice bright colors like hot pinks and deep greens.
Kohls also has a great juniors section, and this place always has something for everyone.

Since you don't want prep labels, try a place like "Plato's Closet" or "Goodwill".

look around every clothes store you see and explore you never know what you'll find at stores you'd never really go to. i'm the same way and usually if i don't see what i like in the windows i never go in but lately i've just been exploring everything and i get a lot of compliments on my choices.

You could do what I do, cut up your clothes and make unique. Sometimes you cut up the sides and tie them, cut off the very top where it fall onto your shoulders, or cut off the bottom of it and wear a shirt under that one.
