I'm 13 and I love music. I play the violin adn the piano and I also kind of sing. I really want to be a music producer (btw i get straight a's), so how can I get on that track to be a producer? What highschool courses should i take? What should I do to prepare? How can I get a job?
I would suggest taking a variety of classes. Of course keep up with all of your music classes, ie..choir and band. However, if it is offered, try taking a "music history" class. If you know about musics history, you will be able to see what has worked in the past, etc. Have a better inside knowledge.
Now, another type of class, that I actually think will help you better is a marketing class!! Alot of the major music producers cannot sing one good note, however, the reason they got to where they are is BECAUSE THEY SOLD THEMSELVES! no--i dont mean they sold their soul or anything--they just know how to appeal to people. In marketing, you learn how you should present yourself in a business like setting.
Take speech classes and debate. By being a great speaker, you will be able to work your way up, because you will have the ability to wow your bosses!!
To get a job, try talking to your school counselor. Look up small record companys in the area. You could try to get a job as a secretary, cleaner, anything, just to get you into that environment! Because your young, they probably wont consider you for any major positions, however you will be able to get a feel for how the company is run! Than, later on, when in college, you can use that experience to help you get an even better job withing a music company to start your way moving up to becoming a top producer!!

In drama you could choose and/or produce music for the plays and other forms of entertainment. If you do well in these courses in high school, by the time you junior year comes, you should start looking at colleges. the best music schools are in NYC. But there are others. Good luck to you and keep up the good work.

I really wish I could help you but sadly I have no desire to be a producer therefore don't exactly know what to tell you but you could certainly ask your music instructors or look online or in the paper.
